Archibald McElroy Sr. was born before 1720 and died in 1761 in Johnston County, North Carolina which is now Wake County. He was married to Catherine. Issue:
- Andrew McElroy, born 1740/1750 in Johnston County. He enlisted into the Revolutionary War from Wake County and served as a private under Capt. Solomon Wood. He was married first to a Miss New according to his application for a pension and second to Phoebe Meadows, born 1786, died 1868/1873, whom he married on 5 June 1817 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Phoebe died in Shelby County, Alabama and Andrew died 16 Feb 1825 probably in Madison County, Alabama. Andrew resided in Wake County, N. C., Oglethorpe County, Georgia, then removed to Wilson County, Tennessee; and later to Madison County, Alabama and Shelby County, Alabama; returning to die in Madison County. The children by his first wife were: Sarah, Catherine, Mary, Green, Martin, Eliza and Johannah.

- John McElroy died ca 1794, married Marjorie; resided on the Little River in Oglethorpe County, Georgia.
- Avington McElroy, born ca 1750, died 1797 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He was married on 7 Mar 1770 in Johnston County, North Carolina to Sarah Dawson, daughter of William and Martha Dawson. The bondsmen for the marriage were William Dawson (Sarah's father) and William Mickleroy (Avington McElroy's uncle). They resided in Wilkes, Elbert and Oglethorpe Counties, Georgia as well as in Pendleton District, South Carolina.
- Frances McElroy married in 1771 in Wake County, North Carolina to John Baptist Shaw.
- Archibald McElroy Jr. died in 1760. He was married to Sarah Lynn and by her had a son, Micajah McElroy, born 20 Sept 1760, died 1834 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.
