Killian of Transylvania Counties


The emigrant from Germany to America was Andreas (Andrew) Killian (1702-1788) who was from the Palatinate in Rheinpfalz, Bavaria, Germany. He came to America and settled in North Carolina near the town of Catawba. His gravestone reads
"Out pioneer ancestor came from Germany on the Ship Adventure, landing at Philadelphia where he took the oath of allegiance about 1732. He came to North Carolina about 1749 and later established a home about two miles north-west of here."
The LWT of Andreas (Andrew) Killian was probated 1788 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. He was twice married, the second wife was Mary Cline; and had twelve children, viz: Margaret, born 1721 in Bavaria, buried in the Wall Cemetery, Montgomery County, Virginia; Leonard, born 15 May 1723 in Bavaria, died 15 May 1795 Lincoln County, North Carolina, buried in the Newton Cemetery; John, born ca 1725 in Bavaria, died 1795 in Lincoln County, North Carolina; Jean, born 1728 in Bavaria; Crete, born 1730 in Bavaria; Daniel (died 22 Feb 1830 Asheville, North Carolina; Elizabeth (died 15 Oct 1852 in Alabama); Andreas (Andrew) 1732-1800; Brinia, born 1739 in Lincoln County, North Carolina; George, born 1740 Lincoln County; Catrina, born 20 Feb 1755 in Lincoln County, died 16 Jul 1832 Cabarrus County, buried in St. John's Church Cemetery.

Andreas (Andrew) Killian, son of Andreas (Andrew) (above), was born about 1732 in Lincoln County, North Carolina and died 1800; married (2) Mariah Barbara Jonas.

Daniel Killian, son of Andreas (Andrew) (above), was born 1777 in that part of Rowan County which later became Iredell County, and died in 1852, buried in the Jonathan Creek Cemetery in Haywood County. He was married to Mary Watts (1772-1855).

James Watts Killian, son of Daniel (above) came from Catawba County, North Carolina to Translvania County. He was married to Jane Louisa Clayton, a daughter of John Clayton and Susanna (Wetzel) Clayton. Issue:
  1. Mary Eliza Killian married Charles Osborne, son of Jeremiah and Rebecca (Fletcher) Osborne.
  2. Miles Lee Killian, died about 1864 during the Civil War.
  3. Sarah Louise Killian married John W. Mills.
  4. Daniel Marcus Killian married Hassie Brown, removed to Haywood County.
  5. Kathrine Ann Killian married Henry Osborne, son of Jeremiah and Rebecca (Fletcher) Osborne.
  6. Rachael Emma Killian married Joseph Orr.
  7. James Leon Killian married Jo Ella Moseley.
  8. Martha Susanna Killian married Ira Smathers.
  9. John Baxter Killian married Ella Patton, removed to Haywood County.
