Jackson Johnston of Franklin


Jackson Johnston was born in Pendleton District, South Carolina (now Pickens County) on 25 November 1821. He was of Irish descent, his parents having been born in Down, Ireland. He came to America in 1818, one of six sons. In 1850, he was residing in the household of Andrew Hodges. Also in that household was Martha A. Johnston, aged 22 years, probably a sister. Jackson Johnston was married 23 March 1859 to C. Eugenia Siler, in Macon County. Issue:
Johnston-Porter Building
The Johnston-Porter Building, 77 West Main Street, Franklin, North Carolina, was built in 1887, and is the oldest surviving commercial structure in Franklin.
