Haywood of Edgecombe County
John Haywood was born in Christ Church Parish near St. Michael's in the Island of Barbadoes, a son of John Haywood, the younger brother of Sir Henry Haywood, Knight and magistrate of England. Haywood, the founder of the family in North Carolina, settled in 1730 at the mouth of the Conecanarie in Halifax County, which at that time was a large part of Edgecombe County. He was married to Mary Lovett. His LWT was dated 18 Feb 1758, probated June 1758 in Edgecombe County which named his brothers Egbert, William and Sherwood and his sisters, Deborah and Mary (213 acres). Father mentioned, but not names.
