Hargett/Hugett of Germany, Maryland, North Carolina and Georgia

The Hargett/Hugett family were part of the Palatines (or Germans) who began arriving in Philadelphia in 1727. Johann Henrich Hargett, the progenitor of the family in Mecklenburg and Union Counties, North Carolina, came from Germany, arriving in Philadelphia on 2 October 1749, onboard the ship Jacob. He first removed to Anson County, North Carolina. According to various land grants, it appears that he, known as John Henry Hargett in America, removed from Anson County after 1764, to Mecklenburg County to reside on a farm of 200 acres located on both sides of Stewarts fork, near the town of Monroe. John Henry Hargett and his wife, Anna, had about ten children. The LWT of Henry Hargett, Sr. was dated 28 March 1803, probated July 1803, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. All of his property, his plantation, as well as 100 acres on Stump Lick (on Richardsons Creek), etc. was left to his wife, Nanna Hargett. After her death, the whole estate was to be divided equally among his children, viz: Henry, Peter, Daniel, Joseph, Elizabeth Chaney, Rachel Pellum, Rebekah Broom, Mary Craig, Sarah Holmes and Agnes Laney. Anna died about 1810. Issue:
