Hampton of Haywood County
Colonel George W. Hampton who served in the Mexican War was born in Leicester, Buncombe County, North Carolina. He moved to Canton in 1873, then known as Pigeon River where he engaged in the business of merchandising and died age the age of ninety in 1902. Issue:
- George Hampton Jr., removed to Georgia.
- Mark Hampton.
- John Hampton.
- James Hampton killed during the Civil War.
- Harriet Hampton married Moses Cochran, resident of Canton.
- William J. Hampton, merchant and banker in Canton, died 25 Dec 1928.
William J. Hampton (above) settled in Canton about 1873; later becoming president of the Champion Bank and Trust Company. He was married to Aurelia Mears. Issue:
- Nova B. Hampton married W. T. Sharp.
- Lula Hampton married I. R. Roberson.
- Minnie Hampton of Canton.
- Charles V. Hampton married Gertrude Mingues, resided in Canton.
- Hattie Hampton married Mark Morgan.
- George L. Hampton married Irene Smathers.
- Oscar M. Hampton married Mae Tate.
