Devereux of England, Virginia and Georgia
Charles Devereux, the son of Morgan Devereux and his wife, Elizabeth (Hughes) Devereux of Montgomeryshire, Wales, England, was born 1740 in Clamorganshire, Wales, and died 1805 in Wrightsboro, Columbia County, Georgia. He was a quaker, which, no doubt led him through the migratory channels, from Virginia, to Georgia. Wrightsboro was a quaker village located in (now) McDuffie County, near the present site of Thomson, Georgia. No relics of the original buildings, only an old Quaker cemetery survives. He married Nancy Woods, a daughter of Joseph Woods, in Fincastle County, Virginia 10/7/1766.[1]
