Boyette of Virginia and North Carolina


Thomas Boyett was b. ca 1685 m. Rebecca, lived in Nansemond County, Virginia, and had issue:
  1. Ruth Boyette b. ca 1739.
  2. Edward Boyette b. 1742.
  3. Rachel Boyette b. ca 1750.
  4. William Boyette b. ca 1754.
  5. Ethedread "Dread" Boyette b. 1740, d. 1830 Bedford Co., TN.
  6. James Boyette b. 1745 Northampton Co., North Carolina, d. 3 Mar 1811 Screven Co., Ga. m. 1768 in Dobbs Co., N. C., Sabra Sasser (b. 1750 Dobbs Co., N. C., d. after 1833 Screven Co., Ga.) The LWT of James Boyett, Screven Co., Ga., undated. Screven Co. Mts., Book A, 1811-1829, P. 1, 3/5/1811:

    "Ordered that the above account is allowed and ordered filed with the papers belonging to the estate of James Boyet, deceased." Book A, P. 20, Sabrey Boyet was given the guardianship Of her son, Seth. "Sabrey Boyet, admx, James Boyet Account. July Court of 1812, Sabra Boyet appeared in Court, producing her accts. as admx. of est. of James Boyet, Sr., which, being examined and approved by the court, were ordered to be fIled and recorded, and also a confirm and by order of the Court of real estate of James Boyet by John Brock, Hardy Scarborough and Samuel J. Beckton, be recorded; viz:, the petition of Philip Boyet, ordered that the said estate of James Boyet be divided amongst the heirs: Sabrey Boyet; James Jeffers; Philip Boyet; Stephen Boyet; James Boyet; Abigail Craddock; Edward Boyet; Jcseph Dickey; Allen Boyet; Seth Boyet; and Irvin Boyet. James Boyett was listed on 1805 Ga. Land Lottery, in Screven Co. He receivedd a land grant of 400 acres in Burke Co., Georgia in 1796.

  1. Seth Boyett,b. 1794, d. ca 1870 in Metter, Candler Co., Ga. He was a minor in 1811, mother apptd gdn at his father's death. He m. 1st, Hannah Fraser 10/19/1817 Screven Co. and, 2d, Patience Moore, 6/18/1829 Screven Co., Ga.
  2. Irvin Boyett, d. 1824 Screven Co., Edward Boyet, his bro., was adm. of his estate Screven Co. Wills & Appraisals, P. 156, 142, 98, 107, 143, 9, 199, 227. Appraisal given 5/1/1824.
  3. Isaac Boyet. Listed on 1830 Decatur Co., Ga. Census. Issue:
    1. George Boyett m. Maitilda Waldon 4/29/1841 Decatur Co.
    2. John H. Boyett m. Elizabeth Trawick 10/9/1853 Decatur Co. Memoirs of Georgia, V. I, P. 584-5: "John H. Boyett, Jr., son of Jd'ln H. and Elizabeth [Traywick] Boyett, was bom 6/7/1864, in the western , part of Decatur County, Georgia. John's parents had four children: Isaac L., a planter; ElIzabeth, single, with brother; Julia Ann [Mrs. Samuel Brunson, Decatur County and John. The Boyetts are of Irish origin and members of the family came to this country among its earliest settlers. Isaac Boyett, Jphn's grandfather, was a soldier in the Indian wars. He cams to Georgia and settled in the western part of Decatur county, being one of the three families there in 1836. He lived and died on a plantation then settled. John H. Boyett, his father, was born in North Carolina, and came to Georgia with the family. In 1853 he and Elizabeth Trawick were married and to them were born four children. Mr. Boyett's father enlisted as a member of Co. A, 51st Ga. Regt. in May 1861, and served in Virginia.. .While doing picket duty in Shenandoah valley, just before day, Sept. 19, 1864, he was shot dead by a Federal picket and was buried where he fell."
  4. James Boyet, Jr., b. 1772 Lexington Co., S. C., drew in 1805 Ga. Land Lottery, from Screven Co. Listed 1820-1830 Burke Co. Census and 1850 Lowndes Co, Ga. Census.
  5. Stephen Boyett drew in 1805 Ga. Land Lottery, Screven Co., and drew 400 acres of land 1821 in Screven Co.
  6. Allen Boyett.
  7. Edward Boyett, b. 1770/1780 Lexington Co., S. C., w., Rebecca. Listed on 1820-30 Screven Co. Census. Screven Deed Book J, P. 289, 7/12/1815, Edward Boyett and his wife, Rebecca, deed to Moses Twiggs for $38, 200 acres Of pine land on Little Horse Creek. Edward Boyett was administrator of the estate of Irvin Boyett, decd, Screven Co. Mts., V. A, P. 116. Issue: 1. James T. Boyett, b. 1812 Screven Co., Ga., d. after 1880 in Bradley Co., Ark. Wife, M.9.ry, b. 1818 Ga. LIsted on 1840 Union Parish, La. Census, was in Tx. in 1857 and Ark. in 1865.
  8. Philip Boyett. Listed on 1830 Decatur Co., Ga. Census. James Boyett, Jr. made his LWT in Emanuel Co., Ga., WB A, P. 86-7, dtd 10/29/1837, naming wife, Rebecca, to whom he left the homeland in Emanuel Co. cQ1sisting of 702 acres. His son, Arthur Boyet and wife, Rebecca, were exrs. The est. of Arthur Boyett was administered on 12/10/1866, Emanuel Co., with bond given by L. Williamson and Solomon Williamson.
