BATTLE of North Carolina & Hancock County, Georgia
John Battle was born ca 1634 in Yorkshire, England. He died ca 1690 on the fork
of the Nansemond River, in Virginia, and is buried on the Pasquotank River in
North Carolina. He married Elizabeth and had issue: Alsey Battle and
William Battle (1682-1749). Since the Nansemond County records have burned,
we have very little background to work with.
William Battle was born 1682 on the Pasquotank River in North
Carolina. He died 1749 on the Nansemond River in Virginia. He married 1710 Sarah Hunter (1684-1769), the
daughter of William Hunter. Issue: William Battle, Sarah Battle, Mary Battle,
Elisha Battle (1/9/1723-3/6/1799, his LWT dated in Edgecombe County, North
Carolina, namiing son, Dempsey), and John Battle (4/30/1709-4/30/1740).
John Battle was born April 30, 1709 in Nansemond County, Virginia, died April 30,
1740 Wine Creek, Hertford County, North Carolina. He married in 1726,
Nansemond County, Miss Sarah Brown (1684-1769).
His LWT is dated April 22, 1740, probated at the May Term of Court, 1740 in
Bertie County, North Carolina. He his wife, Sarah, and children:
Prissilla Battle
and Sarah Battle. Also, named his brother, William Battle.

Hereford County, North Carolina: Sarah Battle, Mary Battle, Sally Battle,
Martha Battle, Priscilla Battle, William Battle (1731-12/1778), and
Jesse Battle.
Jesse Battle, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born on July 8, 1738 in
Hertford County, North Carolina, died August 25, 1805 in Hancock County,
Georgia, buried near Powellton in Hancock County. He was a patriot during the war, furnishing supplies to the
American troops. In 1787 he came to Georgia. In 1756 he married in Nansemond
County, Virginia,
Susanna Faucette, born in France
in 1738, died Hancock County, Georgia on May 8, 1819. Issue:
- John Battle was born 1757 in Nansemond County, Virginia.
- William Summer Battle was born October 26, 1761 in Nansemond County, Virginia,
died in Taliaferro County, Georgia in 1828. He removed to Greene
County (now Hancock County) and enlisted with the Georgia Troops during the
Revolutionary War. He received a land grant for his services. He married in Edgecombe
County, North Carolina, Miss Sarah Whitehead, who was
born in North Carolina on March 9, 1766, the daughter of Lazarus Whitehead.

A. Elizabeth Battle was born 1784, died 1803.
B. Joseph John Battle, born 1786, died 1858 married Rhoda Henrietta
Whitehead.
C. Jesse Brown Battle married Martha Battle Rabun.
D. Sarah Whitehead Battle died in Texas in 1811. She married Christopher
Anthony Carter.
E. John William Battle married (1) Elizabeth Atkinson on December 22, 1819 in
Greene County, (2) Miss Asbury.

- Jesse Battle was born 1770 in Nansemond County, Virginia.
- Susan Faucette Battle was born April 7, 1774 in Nansemond County,
Virginia, died 29 February 1846 in Pearl River, Mississippi, buried in the L. B. Ragan
Cemetery, south of Raymond, Hinds County, Mississippi. He married (1) John Ragan, (2) Mr. Fairchild.
- Mary Battle was born December 12, 1774 in Nansemond County, Virginia,
died December 8, 1842 in Sparta, Hancock County, Georgia. She married Mr. William Rabun in 1793, and
they had a child who was Governor of Georgia in 1819.
- Lazarus Battle was born July 4, 1777 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, married (1) Miss Cook, (2) Margaret (Porter) Fannins.
- Isaac Battle was born 1781 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, married Martha (Patsey) Rabun on February 21, 1815 in Hancock
County.
- Reuben Taylor Battle, born September 10, 1784, Edgecombe County, North Carolina,
died 1805, married Bethia
