James Aycock


James Aycock settled in 1773 on the Ceded Lands in Wilkes Co., Ga., with wife, 4 sons, one daughter, from 16 years to 18 mos., and was granted 100 acres on s.s. of Broad River. The Ceded Lands were Indian lands opened up for settlement and includes Wilkes, Lincoln, and other adjoining counties. A brother, Richard, also came from Va., with wife, 2 sons, aged 4 and 9 mos., granted 200 acres, Chickasaw Cr. The LWT of James Aycock of Chatham Dist. in Ceded Lands of Ga. dtd 8/6/1776, probated 7/15/1777, naming issue: Agnes Groce; William (eldest); Richard; James; John; and Sherod. His inv. dtd 1/1778, Wilkes Co. Est. James Aycock, decd, due from John Bradford to William Aycock about year of 1745, one horse lent in Virginia; due from Henry Pope to William Aycock about 1757 for a mare in Virginia.

Admrs. of LWT of James Aycock, 1776, were Sely Aycock and Barnabas Pace. (Sely believed to be wife of James Aycock). Barnabas Pace believe to be a bro. of Rebecca Pace who m. William Acock and had Winifred Wycock, b. 4/11/1741, d. 12/10/1794 Clarke Co., Ga., m. 1755, Jesse Lane, Rev. War Soldier, b. 7/3/1733 Halifax Co., N. C., d. 1806 Clarke Co., Ga. Wilkes Co. Original Papers, Burwell Aycock was gdn of Sarah Aycock, decd, 2/26/1800, gives affidavit stating that none of her property ever can into his hands.

The orphans of James Aycock drew in 1805 Ga. Land Lottery, from Clarke Co. Henry and Joel drew from Wilkes Co., along with Richard, Jr. And Patsy drew from Elbert Co., Ga.

I. Agnes Aycock m. Jarrad Groce of Lincoln Co., Ga., having issue: Shepherd, Edmund Jarred, Lucy, Sally, Polly, Betsy, Patsy, LWT of Jarrad Groce dtd 3/2/1803, probated 12/3/1803 Lincoln Co., Ga.

II. William Aycock, b. 1757 Va.

III. Richard Aycock, Sr. was Sheriff of Wilkes Co. 1785; on 1779 Grand Jury. Wilkes Ct. ofOrd. Mts. 1798-1811, Petition of Burwell, Joel, Rebeccah and Richard Aycock, Jr., heirs of Richard Aycock, Sr., that a bond signed by Thomas McCall for 400 acres dtd 10/1784 be renewed. A petition dtd 4/13/1793 in Wilkes Co. of Jesse Cox and wife, Mary, admrs. est. Richard Aycock, be granted permission to sell 350 acres on Indian Creek. (widow of Richard, Mary, m. Jesse Cox). Wilkes DB GG, P. 311, 8/26/1791, Henry, Joel, Rebecca, Richard and Winney Aycock, sons and daus. of Richard Aycock, decd, apply to appt. Wiley Pope their gdn. From Wilkes Orig. Papers, Jesse Cox, admr., in rt. of his wife, late widow. of Richard Aycock, decd. Receipt of Richard, Jr., one of heirs, 7/20/1801. Wylie Pope's bond as gdn of Henry, Joel, Rebecca, Richard and Winney, given 9/1/1791. Wilkes Inf. Ct. 1799-1801, Col. Wylie Pope, gdn of heirs of Richard Aycock, decd, and Winneford Pope, releases his gdnship, John Pope and Jesse Cox to be notified.

Richard Aycock gave a bond to Edward Jones, R. P., Wilkes Co., for a marriage license dtd 6/21/1790, but not stated for whom. From book, Wayfarers in Walton County, it is stated that about 1820 brothers, Reddicl- Aycock, b. 1774, d. 12/29/1869, and Richard Aycock, came to Walton Co. from N. C., and that Reddick m. Frances Anderson in 1809.

Henry Aycock, lived Wilkes Co., Ga. F. Richard Aycock, Jr., his LWT dtd 1/16/1815, probated 5/3/1824 Lincoln Co., Ga., naming w., Judith Crawford, and gr-son, William Augustine Anthony, and having issue: James Edward; Lorenzo Richard; Susannah; Elizabeth (Betsy) m. Clark Anthony; and Seaborn. Wilkes Mts. Inf. Ct. 1798-1811, P. 373, Seaborn Aycock, orph. of Richard, decd, chooses James Hinton, gdn.


IV. James Aycock, Wilkes Co. Mts. Inf. Ct. 3/11/1802, James Aycock Est., Roland Taylor, admr., "he intermarried with the widow, who was the Joint executrix with William Aycock." Inv. of est. James Aycock, 1796.
