James Highsmith Andrews was born 8 Jan 1810 in North Carolina according to 1880 census record of John F. Andrews and died 12 Oct 1840. He was married on 15 June 1834 to Jane Tucker, born 10 Jul 1817, died 23 Sept 1889, a daughter of Reuben and Candis Tucker. Issue:
- James Lemuel Highsmith Andrews, born 12 April 1835, died 15 Nov 1836.
- Eli M. Andrews, born 17 Jan 1837, Confederate Soldier, died near Richmond Virginia in April 1862 on the battlefield.
- William Hill Andrews, born 15 April 1838, died 14 Nov 1920. He was a resident of Buncombe County, North Carolina and was killed trying to arrest some Negroes. Known issue: William Hill Andrews, Jr.; Lemuel Andrews; John Andrews; and James Highsmith Andrews. The latter, James Highsmith Andrews was married in Georgia to Jane, resided in Randolph County, Georgia where he died in 1846, leaving seven children; all five sons served in the War Between the States.
- John Franklin Andrews, born 7 Jan 1840 in North Carolina, died 1918. He was a millwright. Wife, June J., was born 1842 in Alabama. Issue: James F. Andrews, born 1864 in Alabama; Malissa Andrews, born 1866 in Alabama; Emma L. Andrews, born 1868 in Alabama; John R. Andrews, born 1870 in Alabama; Carrie O. Andrews, born 1872 in Alabama; William O. Andrews, born 1874 in Alabama; Leroy N. Andrews, born 1876 in Alabama and Eddie R. Andrews, born 1879 in Clayton, Barbour County, Alabama.
- Washington De Lafayette Andrews, born 31 Oct 1841, died 29 June 1862 from wounds received during the War Between the States on the battleground in Richmond, Virginia.
- Jasper DeCalb Andrews, born 21 Mar 1843, died 14 Jan 1915. He was married to Elizabeth Causey and has Lena Mae Andrews who married John William Fleeman.
- Amanda Malvina Andrews, born 7 Dec 1844, died 1936.
- Sarah Jane Andrews, born 9 Feb 1847, died 10 Jul 1929.
