Lucy Cobb Institute

Lucy Cobb Institute

Lucy Cobb Institute was organized in 1859 in Athens, Georgia, as a girls' school. For many years it had the fine reputation as being considered one of the nation's best. It closed its doors in 1931.

But the institute did not die. In 1984, President Reagan signed a bill which appropriated funds for the renovation of the Lucy Cobb Institute, which would become the new home of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Through public and private funding, the chapel was restored in December of 1997. Lucy Cobb Graduates (unknown date)
