He learned a few days ago that a principal was wanted for the Nelson grammar school of that place, so he decided to get the position, if possible. He left immediately for Brunswick, and with strong recommendations from his teachers here (Macon), secured the place over a number of applicants who were ahead of him. Mr. Carroll is a graduate of Mercer university of this place, and President Battle is much gratified at his success, especially as he was the youngest of the large number of 'office seekers'". Chester, N. L. (Dr.) died in Marietta. He was born in Gorton, Connecticut. "He came to Georgia when a youth and entered Franklin College, where he graduated. He taught school in Lexington, Georgia and at the same time studied medicine. He afterwards removed to Gainesville and practiced his profession. About the year 1835, he came to Marietta, where he has since lived, enjoying the confidences and esteem of all who know him. For more than 40 years he has been a ruling elder in te Presbyterian church...leaving a wife and three children. The Marietta Journal 12/1/1876.

Cobb, Andrew J., Professor, "son of the late General Howell Cobb, also fills a professor's chair. (State University, Athens) He inherits much of his father's intense mind and ability he is a graduate of the University of Georgia, in the class of '76, and has been in the active practice of law for fourteen years. During that time he has stored his mind with legal knowledge and experience, thus fitting him to a high degree for the position of professor which he has held since 1884. He is quite an authority upon law, and his opinions have much weight. He is now city attorney, and is local counsel for the Georgia, Carolina, and Northern Railway company.
