Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Georgia

Agnes Scott College is a private undergraduate college which is located in Decatur, Georgia. It was founded in 1889 as Decatur Female Seminary by Frank H. Gaines, a Presbyterian minister. The name was changed in 1890 to Agnes Scott Institute and in 196 to Agnes Scott College, a liberal arts women's college. Its first graduating class was in 1894. The college began thriving with an aggressive plan to receive donations, beginning about 1915 with the arrival of its new registrar, James Ross McCain, who later became president.
