Unfortunately, the records burned in Heard, and genealogists have very little to work with. That is why the research should include its surrounding counties. Generally, speaking, as families traveled together, a popular trail from Georgia led into Chambers and Limestone Counties, Alabama. Before the 1840 Alabama Census, much of the State was a territory. If your ancestors went west, they probably went first to reside in one of the West Georgia counties. That is because the Treaties with the Indians were still being implemented during 1834. First, they crossed the Alabama border and made homes around Chambers County.
