Warren

I am interested in WARRENs in Franklin, maybe Jackson, Hall, Gwinnett and definitely Heard Counties. “My” John Warren is found in the 1840-1860 Heard Co census records. But it is the father of John Warren b 1792 in SC that I am seeking. It has been suggested that his father might be James, son of James & Elizabeth Harmon Warren who were in Hall Co GA. 1830 Gwinnett Co records show a widow Bethia/Bethana Warren living next to a John who could be ‘my’ John. In 1840, my John has a woman of the proper age living with him to be his mother, Bethia, maybe. But WHO was Bethia’s husband? There was a William Warren in Gwinnett in 1820, but he is still there in 1830 too. My John b 1792 SC was married to a Martha, maybe Grier. Their son, John was born c 1819 either SC or GA, (census records vary) and married a Sarah. Some John Warren married a Sarah McCoy 13 Mar 1832 in Pike County, Georgia. But I know nothing further about that. Any guidance you can give will be much appreciated.

I have to agree with you that Bethea Warren is suspect for being the mother. I found her on the 1810 Edgefield County, South Carolina Census as follows: male 16-26, female 10-16, female 16-26, female 26-45 and female 45 and over. The son 16-26 fits quite well to be John Warren. There was also a head of household, John Warren, on 1810 Edgefield County Census, however, the age range did not fit. To this end, I began tracing the movements of Bethea Warren. It appears that she was widowed after 1800. The 1800 Edgefield County Census has one Joseph Warren, having the same number of daughters and 3 sons under 10, and a wife which fits the age of Bethea. Others in the county in 1800 were James, John and William. None of these apply. However, William Warren was over 45 years of age, so he appears to be of interest as to being the possible father of these Warrens. Edgefield County Deed dated 12/20/1809 of William Warren to Watts Mann for $500, 75 acres on Saluda River and Ditch Creek. Wife, Eleanor also signed the dead.
