Mosley (Moseley)
Jeannette,
Can you help me find more information on my Mosley (Moseley) relatives that came from Georgia or offer me some advice how else I might find more information on them.
My gr-gr grandfather Benjamin F. Moseley shows up in Heard County on the 1850 census. The census indicates that he was born in SC. I have done quite a bit of research but cannot get back any further than 1850 Heard County except for one tiny piece of information that I found on your website. Which incidentally, I love. I think you have done a wonderful job with it.
What I did find and believe may be a true connection is there was Private Benj. F. Mozley that served in Capt. Giles Bogges 2nd GA Volunteers in the Seminole War. It shows he enlisted May 18, 1838 Carroll Co., GA and was discharged June 26, 1838 at Nahunta.
The reason I think this might be my Benjamin is because he married Permelia Walker daughter of Wm. J Walker who did reside in Carroll County. There is also a John Calhoun Moseley that married Permelia’s sister Rebecca. We think that Benj and John may be brothers or cousins at least. Both Benj and John resided in Heard County and lived close to each other.
There is a Benj F Moseley that was in Putnam County but that is not our line from what I have researched.
I do have information from the two books by Linda Eller on Heard County which one is of the cemetery records and the other is about the people of Heard County. I also know the Heard County courthouse burned at one time and I think this is what is making it more difficult to find.
A story passed down from a relative of John Calhoun Moseley is that his parents died when he was young and he was raised by an uncle. This would certainly fit with Benj as well since I have not been able to find a trace of his parents anywhere so far. The uncle was not named in the history passed down.
I would appreciate any help or leads that you can give me.
Thanks so much,
Peggy

Benjamin F. Moseley was born 1825 in South Carolina. The first thing which I did was search the 1830 South Carolina Census records to see where the Moseley families resided in that State. I found a Benjamim Moseley in Abbeville County., page 35 who had a son in that age range. A search of the Abbeville County records discloses a close parallel to your family history. Hurrah!
