William Jacobs of Jackson County, Sheriff, for $18.00, grants 230 acres on the North Oconee River on the Hurricane Shoals adjoining D'Estaing granted to Wagnon, whereon Ansel Cunningham and others lived at the time the survey was made, levied on as the property of John Cobbs, Sr.

Jackson County Deed Book G, page 171. 11/5/1818. Jesse Smith to Ansel Cunningham of Jackson County for $100.00, 100 acres located on the North fork beginning at gum corner on a branch near the Tanyard running West to post oak corner on Cunningham's line, North 45 East to a hickory corner on the river and down the river to the mouth of Wheelee's branch.

Ansel moved to Jackson County about 1812 where he started buying land. He had a huge plantation that was known as the Cunningham Plantation. Ansel died in 1840, I understand that the land remained in the family for many years, but, was eventually sold out of the family. The county purchased the land and is now a part of the county park in Jackson County. I'm hoping that you have a photo of the home.

I'm enjoying the site. I have a number of ancestors from Green,Wilkes,Jackson. Thank you,

Glenna Cunningham Davidson
