Crawford of Henry and Coweta Counties; Alabama

Comments from Ida Dickey Jeannette, I went back and checked all census recvords that I have and will explain further. 1850 COWETA CO GA

ALL CHILDREN OF WM CRAWFORD and SARAH B IN GA FROM CLARISSA JANE B 1838 DOWN TO ANDERSON CHRISTOPHER B 1850.

1860 COVINGTON CO ALA CENSUS

WILLIAM C CRAWFORD AND SARAH WHO WAS STILL LIVING DAUGHTER

JANE HAD MARRIED AND MOVED OUT AND IT DOES LIST CHILDREN B IN ALA WHICH IS WRONG. ONLY LAST 2 WHICH WERE MARTHA AND GEORGE W WERE B IN ALA.

1870 COVINGTON CO ALA CENSUS

NAME IS SPELLED WM CRAFFORD SARAH HAD DIED BY THIS TIME AND RIGHT AFTER WM on census is JANE who was oldest daughter and her age is wrong-she was b in 1838. married a man named GILMORE THE 3 GILMORE CHILDREN AT BOTTOM OF PAGE WERE HERS. SHE WAS A WIDOW. THE NAME KITT LISTED ON THERE IS MY GGRANDFATHER ANDERSON CHRISTOPHER-KITT IS A NICKNAME FOR CHRISTOPHER AND MY FATHER SAID HE WAS CALLED KITT.

HOPE this explains things better, but these are the same people. I have seen other census records after my Anderson Christopher had married and some list him b in Ga and some list Ala. Guess they didn't know at the time how important it is to know. But 1850 Coweta Co Ga lists them as b in Ga and Sarah had 2 others in Ala. William C CRAWFORD is listed in 1850 as being b in 1809 AND in 1860 and 1870 it was 1812. ALL 3 LIST PLACE AS NORTH CAROLINA.

Maybe this will explain it better.

Some people in ANCESTRY have my William C Crawfords parents listed as Soloman and Rebecca in Conecuh Co Ala---THAT IS WRONG and some have William Crawford and Mary Shanklin WHICH IS ALSO WRONG ALTHOUGH they had a son named William T Crawford b about 1810 but moved to Texas and THIS IS NOT MY FAMILY.

I was hoping you might be able to find my William C Crawfords parents or father as I know there were several CRAWFORDS in Henry Co Ga in the early 1820-1840 time.

Please let me know if you need more info. Ida

NO MAM! My William C Crawford was married in 1835 to SARAH WIDENER in HENRY CO GA THEN they were in COWETA CO GA in 1850. Clarissa Jane b 1838, John b 1840 , DANIEL RILEY b 1843, POLLY b around 1844, JAMES STERLING B 1846, and several others and ANDERSON CHRISTOPHER B 1850 in COWETA CO then there were others born there and in 1862 Sarah had her last of 11 children in COVINGTON CO ALA.His name was GEORGE WASHINGTON CRAWFORD.

I HAVE BOTH JOHN AND RILEY'S CIVIL WAR RECORDS AS I AM A MEMBER OF UNITED DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY AND THEY WERE BOTH BORN IN HENRY CO GA.

SOME PEOPLE ESPECIALLY ON ANCESTRY.COM HAVE THEIR INFORMATION WRONG.....THIS IS ALSO WRONG ABOUT ALL CHILDREN BEING BORN IN ALA. I HAVE SEEN SOME OF THE CENSUS RECORDS AND SOME PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE THEY WERE BORN.

JOHN AND RILEY CRAWFORD WERE IN THE ALABAMA 29TH INFANTRY CO I AND AS STATED ON PENSION APPLICATIONS WERE BORN IN HENRY CO GEORGIA.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU. MY WILLIAM C CRAWFORD AND SARAH NEVER LIVED IN CONECUH CO ALA.....THEY MOVED FROM COWETA GA TO COVINGTON ALA. MY WILLIAM C WAS BORN IN NORTH CAROLINA AND WIFE SARAH WAS BORN IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

I was unable to locate anything further on William C. Crawford in Georgia, except the deed listed below (link). The only two members of the Crawford family from North Carolina were Alfred and William C. and they seemed to have settled in Coweta County. Henry County Deeds (2 pages)

Crawfords on 1820 North Caroiina Census Those persons have sons under the age of 10 in 1820 were found in the following counties: Robeson, Iredell, Johnston, Rutherford, Rockingham, Buncombe, Orange, Cabaniss, Pitt, Richmond, Anson, Wayne and Pasquotank.

I searched these counties for wills and estates and did not find anything helpful.
