Long, Samuel was buried in the New Hope Presbyterian Cemetery in Madison County, Georgia not far from the home of Shannon Scheels (who is providing this information), as she is a descendant. "wages due me for two tours of duty performed by me in the State of North Carolina during the late War, as will appear by a discharge given by Gilford Dudley dated Lynche's Creek, May 13, 1781. Smith served part of the time under Capt. Welch of the Virginia State Troops who exchanged me for a Soldier by the name of John Linch under the command of Capt. Craddick in the second regiment under General Hogan's command on which said time of enlistment was out about the Fall of Charleston which far prevented me from getting a discharge. I, therefore, appoint John Powell of Nash Co. N. C. to be my lawful attorney to receive all that is coming to me for my services...."
