Soldier m. 9/29/1786 in Pittsylvania Co., Va., Mary Morrison who was b. 7/14/1761 and allowed pension 7/19/1847 (her appl.) James Waldroup d. 12/3/1846, Fayette Co., Ga. WEST, William, S14827, North Carolina, Rowan Co., appeared before Pleas & Qtr Sessions, August Term of 1818, aged 63, enl. 9 mos. 4/1778 in Md., Capt. Benjamin Brocks, 3rd Regt. in Md. Line, Col. Gunby; enl. 3 yrs. in pa., Capt. Rash Claget's Co., 3rd Regt., Smallwood Brigade, disch. 1/12/1782 in S. C. under Gen. Greene. In battles of Guilford, Gates' defeat, Eutaw Springs. Received wound in his side at battle near Camden.
WHATLEY, Michael, S7876, Georgia, Stewart Co., app1. dtd 2/7/1835, was b. 7/5/1750 Culpepper Co., Va., en1. while res. Orange Co., N. C. 5/1780, as Pvt., Capt. Thompson, Col. Moore's N. C. Regt., in battles of Gates'defeat, disch. Oct.; en1. 3 mos. as Lt. Horseman, Capt. Hodges, Col. O'Neal's N. C. Regt.; en1. 3 mos. as spy, Col. Taylor's N. C. Troops, captured by tories while on road between Orange Co. and Wilmington, but paroled. Soldier d. 8/22/1840. Soldier's son, John H. Whatley, res. Franklin, Ga. in 1839 was admr. of father's est. in 1841. In 1833, soldier's bro., Daniel Whatley, testified in Marion Co., Ga.
WHATLEY, Samuel, W64922, Georgia, Wilkes Co., in 1824 Whatley examined by physicians, Thomas G. Janes and R. Q. Dickenson of Wilkes Co. and certified as to his loss of bone in left arm, which was painful and had no use of his hand. 3/10/1824 soldier applies for pension, was in battle of Long Cane 12/10/1781 and lost use of arm. He was pensioned 12/13/1786, served under Capt. Micajah Williamson's Co. of Mounted Militia of Col. Elijah Clarke's Regt. in Ga., that he has lived Wilkes Co., Ga. for last 47 yrs. Before that, he was in Bute Co., N. C. 4/15/1842, letter from Mrs. Catharine Whatley, wid., to Hon. R. W. Habersham, Ga. Senator, stating that abt time of Rev., her father, James Ang1in,moved from N. C. to Ga., settling near Washington, Ga., bringing with him 7 sons and Catharine, "a motherless dau. abt 13 yrs. old." Her bros. were all older than she. Her father was native of Ireland. She had lived 5-6 yrs. in Wilkes Co., Ga. when she married Samuel Whatley, a boy abt her age, whose father had been killed by indians at Cherokee Corner on Clarke-Oglethorpe Co., Ga. Line when Samuel was 14 yrs. old, the eldest child. During Rev., her husband served under Elijah Clarke, was at siege of Augusta and served under Col. Elijah Clarke when he was shot in left arm. They were betrothed before he left on S. C. Campaign, and when he returned home with his wounds, were married before old Squire Biddle in Wilkes Co. She has lived 45 yrs. in Wilkes Co. after her marriage and moved to Pike Co. after Samuel's death to plantation of her son, James Whatley, where he has res. for 9-10 yrs. She had 5 sons "still alive and Ga. citizens". She married Samuel in Wilkes Co., Ga. in 1781 or 1782. She is 80 yrs. old, lived in Ga. 67 yrs., in Wilkes Co. 55 yrs., and Pike Co., 9 yrs. She states her husband was loyal to Whig cause and before he reached majority was twice frozen, once hung and twice shot while in defense of liberty. Henry Anglin, Sr., who served with Whatley under Micajah Williamson, testified that Whatley was wounded at Long Canes in S. C., taken prisoner 4-5 mos., came home with wounds allover him, 2/13/1844, Jackson Co.

WHITE, George, S32057, Georgia, McIntosh Co., Darien, apple dtd 1/18/1836. He enl at Waxhaws, Lancaster Dist., S. C. where he lived in 1777, served at various times until close of one, making 1 yr., 9 mos. in all as Pvt. and saddler with S. C. Troops under Captains Robert Crawford, John Drennon, and Colonels Joseph Kershaw, Beaufort and Hampton; was at battles of Brier Creek and Stone Ferry. Joseph White, bro. of George.
WHITE, Jesse, 822062, Georgia, Clarke Co., appl. 11/20/1835, age 70, was b. 1/21/1762, then Clarendon Co., now Sumter Dist., S. C. abt 75 mi. from Charleston. Lived S. C. near place of birth until he removed to Ga. abt 24 yrs. ago, Clarke Co., near Athens, Ga. Drafted as militiaman, Capt. William Duke, discharged day after evacuation of Charleston by Gen. Marion at Biggers Church; taken prisoner bet~n time of fall of Charleston and entering service 8/1780, paroled near moue of Jack;s Cr., Santee River.

C. Troops, moved from N. C. to Ga., then Tenn. abt 1818 and d. hardin Co. 1/2/1841, survived by children: Samuel and Andrew of Henderson Co., Tenn.; James of Giles Co., Tenn.; Benjamin of Texas; George of Mo.; Mrs. Polly Oglesby of Smith Co., Tenn.; Mrs. Rebecca Shelby and Mrs. Margaret Shelby. He m. abt 1785 Mecklinburg Co., Rebecca Cathey who d. Hardin Co., Tenn. abt 1830-1831.

C. spring of 1780. He is wheelwright but unable to work because of imperfect vision. Wife, Esther, age abt 60, infirm. Two orphan boys--Bennet and Dempsey Cowan, one abt 12, other abt 11.

Jackson and res. in Granville Co., N. C. when enl., marched to Wilmington and attached to scouting party and attacked by body of tories which they drove back. He received wound in right leg by a ball, disch. at Town Cr. by Capt. A. D. Pope in 1783, serving less than 6 mos. as Pvt.
