PERKINS, Isaac, S41953, North Carolina, Craven Co., application dtd 6/9/1818, aged 51; enl. as Pvt., ContI Line, N. C. Regt. in 1777, Capt. Silas Sears Stevenson's Co., marched to Valley Forge, Pa. where 10th Regt. was disbanded and deponent passed into 2d Regt., co. of Capt. Clement Hall, northern campaign, marched to S. C. and taken prisoner at Charleston, escaped, returned to N. C. and served til peace in Militia of that State. Service exceeded 3 yrs. In 1829 soldier was aged 73. In 1829, his wife, Deborah, aged 66. Soldier d. 5/23/1830.

PERKINS, John, R8111, Georgia, Marion Co., appl. dtd 6/17/1854 of wid., Nancy, appointed Charles C. Tucker her atty to prosecute her claim for pension. Georgia, Stewart Co., 8/18/1837, John Perkins, aged 78 as of 8/19th past; he vol. Ga. State Troops as horseman 7/1778, Col. Elijah Clarke of Wilkes Co., Ga. pursue indians to the Cherokee purchase, now the n. e. co.'s of the State; was in general skirmishes; served til 10/1778. Vol. 1778 as Pvt. footman, Capt. Greenbury, Col. Benjamin Few, marched to Richmond, now Columbia Co., then Burke Co. Ct. Hse, for 3 wks. guarding the jail occupied by tory prisoners. At this place he had several skirmishes with tories, served 1 mo., then returned home. Vol., Pvt. footman 1779, Capt. Samuel Beckam of Ga. Troops 6/1779, to Savannah, was at seige in 1779; entered Ga. Troops under Col. Benjamin Few in 1781; does not remember when he ~ntered service or when he left; entered, vol. as Pvt. footman, :apt. Samuel Alexander 3/1782, 6 mos., marched from Augusta to Savannah, then Ebenezer; to Savannah, left 8/1782. Soldier was b. 3/19/1759 N. C., lived in Richmond Co., Ga. when enl.; since has Lived in Crawford Co., now Stewart.

PERKINS, John, 'W2640, Tennessee, Wayne Co., appl. dtd 1/15/1859, William Sinclair's affidavit, J. P., authorized to admr. Frances Jerkins, a resident of sd co., she is wid. of John Perkins, alias Thomas Carson, who was Pvt.; applied to obtain bounty land. A lension was granted husband, drawing $50 per annum at Nashville, Tenn.; also lived Hardin Co., Tenn. Husband d. 6/16/1840. Frances

PHILLIPS, Exum, from McCall's Roster of Revolutionaary War Soldiers in Georgia

PILGRIM, Michael, S31909, Georgia, Lumpkin Co., appl. dtd 8/18/1836, aged 83; drafted when 16 yrs. old in Henry Co., Va. to go against Shawnee indians, Capt. George Harrison, Col. Campbell. He went to Henry Ct. Hse, but on his way to that place was thrown from his horse and inured so as to prevent his going on the expedition, but he employed a substitute who served the tour. Afterwards, enl. under Maj. John Mair as scout and came to N. C. for 12 mos. Was in two fights with tories-one in hollows f Yadkin where three prisoners were taken. Next drafted to go to Winchester go guard a no. of prisoners under Capt. Torrance, 3 mos. Vol. under Capt. L. Shelton to oppose Cornwallis, marched down Dan River in Va. Last payment for 9/4/1839 to 9/4/1840.

PIPKIN, Stephen, R8269, Alabama, Conecuh Co., appl. 9/5/1835, was bo 8/1/1757 in Dobbs Co., N. C., vol. 9/1775 or 1776 Dobbs Co., 6 mos., Capt. George Miller, Lt. Benjamin Exum, Col. Richard Caswell's Regt., marched to Widow Moore's Cr. to prevent tories from joining British at Wilmington, where they were attacked, and routed. Later drafted 5 mos., hiring Thomas Grantham as substitute who served out his tour. While Charleston was being held by British, he was again drafted 9 mos. in troops to march to Charleston, and hired William Peters as his substitute. Pension rejected as he did not serve 6 mos.

PINSON, Joseph, R5560, Georgia, Rabun Co., appl. dtd 7/7/1834, was b. 1/30/1754 Orange Co., N. C., enl. Washington Co., N. C. (later Tenn) 5/15/1776, served til 10/12/1776 as Pvt. in Capt. Jacob Womack's Co., Col. Shelby's N. C. Regt. Was in battle with indians on Nolichucky River. While living Wilkes Co., N. C., enl. 3/19/1777, served til 7/23/1777 as Pvt., Capt. Joseph Wilson, Col. John Carter's N. C. Regt., and later as Pvt. under Col. Benjamin Cleveland to guard prisoners at battle of Kings Mtn. Soldier married 9/15/1775 Wilkes Co., N. C., Margery. Wid.'s appl., Margery Pinson, dtd 7/20/1847, aged 89. Samuel Farris testified in 1851 that he married the 11th child of Joseph and Margery Pinson in 1.822 when she was 22 yrs. old. Samuel Farris sd wid., Marger, d. 6/9/1852 in Walker Co., Ga. at his home. In 1853 the surviving children were: Elizabeth Visage, b. 7/4/1777 who married William Visage in 1820, lived Union Co., Ga.; Jane Carter, lived Union Co., Ga., aged 55; Mary Burch; and MilIa Burch. Moses Pension testified in 1847 before Judge, Inf. Ct. of Cass Co., Ga. that he was younger bro. of soldier, Joseph Pinson.

PORTER, Oliver, 832452, Georgia, Greene Co., appl. states he was b. 10/14/1763 Prince Edward Co., Va. where he lived during the war. Enl. 5/25/1780 as Pvt., Capt. Jesse Owens' Co.; at battle of Camden; with Capt. Kirkwood at storming of a British picket guard; at battle of Wetzell t1il1s. Served 10 days guarding military stores; was at siege of Yorktown. Discharged 10/20/1781. Soldier d. 8/29/1838 Greene Co., Ga.

POTTS, James, Jr. John Nesbit, Abner Sharpe, Abraham Alexander, freeholders of Iredell Co. appeared before M. Stokes, J. P. of Salisbury Dist. 9/30/1801 and swore they knew James Potts of Iredell Co. for many yrs. and that he is the support of a large family and was wounded in defense of his country. John Nesbit and Alexander York state that abt 6/20/1780 James Potts of Iredell Co. served as soldier in N. C. Militia, Col. Francis Lock, who is since dead, and Capt. John Purviance, who removed to Tenn. and was at battle of Ramsour's Mills where he was disabled by a wound through his ankle, which now in a great measure prevents him from pursuing his usual and necessary occupation, the wounded part still frequently painful after labor or exercise, dtd 9/30/1801. POWELL, Britain, W4768, North Carolina, Duplin Co., appl. dtd 11/23/1832, age abt 92. Enl. in Rev. War under Col. James Kenon, Maj. John Moulton, Capt. Shadrack Stallings, Lt. Elijah Bowen, Ens. Clifton Bowen, in Spring 1777/78 as Lt. Horseman. Rendezvoused at Duplin C. H. and served abt 2 yrs; then hired Lewis Penear to substitute for him because of the illness of his wife. Vol. 1779 under Capt. Frederick Wells. In 1780-1781, Capt. Aaron Williams, Capt. H. Holmes, Generals Rutherford and Butler, took 7 Tories prisoner at home of Mrs. Mary Devane on Black River, new Hanover Co., N. C. Enl. in Col. Hawkins' Army at Maj. Richard Clinton's (now Sampson C. H.), pursued Tories. Served as minuteman, but had no major battles, rather pursuing Tories up and down the North East River. Joined Col. William Washington's Regt. of Continental Line and marched to South Carolina.
