JONES, Ebenezer, R5743, Illinois, Lee Co., application dtd 5/7/1855 of wid., aged 71, husband enl. Dutchess Co., N. Y. 1777, N. Y. Troops, served as Corp. til close of war. Married 3/26/1802 Saltfleet, Wensworth Co., Canada, Sarah Springsted. Soldier d. Malahide, Elen Co., Canada 1/2/1840. Son, Jacob S., aged 34 in 1855.

JONES, Edward, North Carolina, Guilford Co., appl. dtd 10/22/1832, aged 63, enl. 3 yrs. 3/19/1777 in Va., Capt. Thomas Armistead, 1st Regt. of Col. Gibson, Va. Line, served til fall 1777; then attached to 2d Regt., Va. Line, sta. Williamsburg til spring 1778; then joined Gen. Washington at Valley Forge in Pa.; then 1st Va. Regt., Capt. Abner Crump til 1781. Was at battles of Eutaw Springs, Guilford, Camden, and siege of 96. Has no family.

JONES, Franklin, S4441, Tennessee, Giles Co., appl. dtd 1832, was b. Amelia Co., Va. 5/5/1763; at time of enlistment lived Charlotte Co., Va. After war, moved to Ga.

JONES, Henry, R5704, Alabama, Barbour Co., apple dtd 1/15/1832, aged 77, was b. Dinwiddie Co., Va. and at time of war lived Brunswick Co., Va. Drafted 1780, 3 mos., Capt. Benns Jones, Lt. Robertson, marched to Hillsborough, N. C., then Dey River, S. C., joined Gen. Gates on evening before his defeat near Camden. Returned to Va., enl. 3 mos., Capt. Thomas Threadgell, 1 wk., employed as substite for Charles Rudden, released 1781; ordered out 6 wks. Capt.. House, marched Meherrin River and James Riber, was shot and left in an old barn with the sick and disabled, then returned home. Was b. Dinwiddie Co., but raised Brunswick Co., Va. After war, moved to N. C., then Ga., then Ala.

JONES, Isaac, S31777, Georgia, Telfair Co., appl. dtd 1836, was b. 3/30/1761 N. J., during Rev. lived Frederick Co., Va. and Guilford Co., N. C. Later lived in Jefferson and Wilkinson Co.'s, Ga. Removed from N. J. when infant to Frederick Co., Va.; drafted 1777 into Mili~ia, 3 mos., Capt. Thomas Baldwin, disch. 3/4/1778; summer of 1778 moved to Guilford Co., N. C. and drafted 1779, 3 mos., Oapt. Wilson, joined Gen. Rutherford at Salisbury, in skirmishes at Rocky River. Has lived Telfair Co., Ga. for 10 yrs.

JONES, Jonathan, S31778, Georgia, 4/7/1834, aged 77, lived Onslow Co., 11/10/1778, as Pvt., Capt. John King, til 4/25/1779; served 12/12/1781 to Laurens Co., apple dated N. C. at time of enl. Col. Phillip Alston, in N. 1/7/1783 as Orderly Sgt., lived Wilkes, Columbia, Lincoln Co.'s Ga.; 1790-1806 in Lincoln Co., 1807-8 Jackson Co., 1809-1816 Morgan Co., then Ala. 9 yrs., through 1825., then back to Upson Co., Ga., lived 1826-7, then Meriwether Co., Ga. in 1828. Husband d. 8/31/1832. Husband wwas at two sieges of Augusta, of 96; in first siege of Augusta he rendevoused on Little River, Wilkes Co., and second at Kiokee Cr., Capt. Dooly and Col. Elijah Clarke. Under Gen. Lee in 2d siege of Augusta. His father of the same name, Charles Jordan, was with him at 2d siege of Augusta and was killed there by a shot in stomach. His 4th service was as vol. Pvt., Militia, infantry, scouting on Little River, Ga. frontiers and S. C., 1782, under Capt. Samuel Harper, Gen. Elijah Clarke. In 1837, wid. had 8 small children.

JORDAN, Dempsey, W4462, Georgia, Taliaferro Co., appl. dtd 11/21/1836 of Sarah Jordan, wid., aged 80, husband received pension, dying 11/3/1833. She married 1/1777. 9/13/1832, Dempsey Jordan, aged 78, b. 1754, Jan. 6th, stated he entered servicce 1776 in Ga., Col. John M. C. McIntosh, Maj. Leonard Marbury's battns, 2 yrs., served all time in Savannah, for which he was promised bounty land in fork of Appalatchee, but never got it. Dischd at Savannah; later vol., Gen. Elijah Clarke, at siege of Augusta, then Capt. Dooly, Gen. Pickens, fighting Cherokee indians, dischd. after more than 4 yrs. service. JORDAN, Dempsey

Another tour, same yr., Capt. Thomas Short, marched to James River, disch. Another tour, Capt. Eder Walker, Col. Booker. Was b. 4/14/1760, Nottaway Co., formerly Amelia Co., Va. Now resides Brunswick Co., Va. (refused because less than 12 mos.

Hugh Mercer's 3rd Re.gt., at battles of Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown. 1894 letter from Thomas R. Jordan of North K. and Prospect, Tacoma, Washington, stating George Jordan was his grandfather.

Philip Taliaferro, Col.'s Charles Dabney and William Brent, Va., at battles of Monmouth and Stony Pt. In 1820 had wife, aged 55, children: Henry, Rachel and Sarah. JORDAN, James, S32346, Illinois, Morgan Co., appl. dtd 5/13/1833, was b. 11/15/1755 near Carlisle, Pa., moved Camden Dist. S. C. 1765 where enl. 11/1779 as Pvt., Capt. John Moffett, S. C. Militia, Col.'s Neil, Bratton, Cleveland and Shelby; in battles of Rocky Mt., Hanging Rock, Eutaw Springs, served til 10/1781. 1802 moved Livingston Co., Ky., 3 yrs.; to St. Clair Co., Ill. 8 yrs.; Pike Co., Mo. 3 yrs.;..St. Louis, mo. 3 yrs.; Pike Co., 3 years, now Morgan Co.

JORDAN, John, S38098, Virginia, Albemarle Co., application dtd 12/14/1811, enl. as Cadet 2/1776, Capt. Samuel Jordan Cabell's Rifle Co.,; was Lt. in Col. Daniel Morgan's Va. Regt.; at battles of Trenton and Princeton; was Capt. of Burgoyne and Edge Hill where severely wounded in knee and ill several mos. When recovered, returned to army at S. C., taken prisoner at Charleston; after being exchanged, was Capt. in Col. Posey's Va. Regt., served til 6/23/1782, disch. Savannah, Ga. Disability pension 12/14/1811, lived Albemarle Co. 1827, 68 yrs. old.

JORDAN, John

JORDAN, John, S29726, Georgia, Clarke Co., Lamar Cobb 9/29/1893 states that Mary Newton named in pens. cert. 7759 lived with him 3/22/1889; that he married her dau. and was exr. of her husband's est., the late John H. Newton; she d. in his house at Athens, Ga. 1/22/1893 and there has been no adm. of her est. as all her children were of age and assumed and pd. all demands that have been rendered; that she left 3 children, viz: Edwin D. Newton; Oliver N., Cobb; and Helen C. Carlton. That check for her pension due 2/4/1893 was received prior to her death, but her condition was such that he did not deem it prudent to present it to her for her signature and it has never been pd. Georgia, Washington Co., 10/3/1846, Winefred Jordan, aged 84, wid. of John, decd, "who was rather under the midle statue as to hight stout or square built, fare complexion, red hair, eyes blue, by some might be called gray" , lived to be 88 years old. She married soldier at the house of George Jordan, her father's house in Northampton Co., N. C., by Laurens Smith, J. P., abt 3 yrs. after surrender of Cornwallis on 1st Sun. in Feb. 1784. That John Jordan was overseeing and the first yr. of their marriage they lived with Isham Smith in Greenville Co., Va., then with Simon Turner, then with Henry Hayley; then settled off to themselves, moving to Washington Co., Ga. where she now lives. John Jordan d. 8{17/1828. Wid. only knows of rumors of service and what he told her; said he enl. as Pvt. in ContI service Greenville Co., Va., Capt. Francis Moore, Col. Elbert, 3 yrs., was taken by British at fall of Savannah, Ga., put onboard prison ship 3 mos., 17 days, exchanged and permitted to pass through his native co. of Greenville on his way to join the army; was at taking of Cornwallis, disch., returned to Henry Hayley's. Husband never asked for pension.

JORDAN, Peter, W9091, Kentucky, Fayette Co., apple dtd 9/22/1820, aged 70, res. Mercer Co., enl. 1776 Frederick Co., Va., Capt. Clarke, 8th Va. Regt., Col. Borrman, 2 yrs., disch. by Gen. Scott. His orig. declare dtd 10/11/1819, was farmer, having wife and 4 children. A son, aged 17, and 3 daus. Susannah, wid. of Peter who d. 8/2/1824 Mercer Co., 9/24/1838, appeared before J. P., aged 76, was married 1786, abt. 2-3 wks. before Christmas in Frederick Co., Va. on waters of Cedar Cr. Deposition of Mrs. Mary Desponette taken at house of Mrs. Susannah Jordan, Mercer Co., 9/24/1838 that she is 1st child of sd Susannah and Peter, b. 1787 in Oct. or Nov., now 51 yrs. old and remembers well her father and mother moved from Frederick Co., Va. to Ky. in fall of 1797 and Mercer Co., abt 5/1798 and her father d. 8/2/1824. Mother is still living, abt 75 or 76 yrs. old. Deposition of Col. John M. Jordan, son of Peter and Susannah, b. 1789, aged 49.

JORDAN, Robert, S18910, South Carolina, Lexington Dist., apple dtd 8/24/1849 of Mrs. Sarah Copeland, aged 61, dau. and only surviving heir of Robert Jordan, decd., who enl. 6 mos. as Pvt., either in Capt. Francis Marion or Capt. Peter Horry's Co. in 1775, 2d S. C. ContI Regt.; was at battle of Ft. Moultrie on Sullivan's Island near Charleston; served as Pvt., horseman, 1 mo.; as Sgt. of Horse, and 4 mos. as Sgt. of Foot same yr.; 1781 served 6 mos. as Sgt. of Horse, Capt. Gaines' Co., Col. Harden; was spy 1782, 2 mos., Gen. Francis Marion's Brig.; 2/1783, 2 mo., as Sgt., and 5/1783, 1 mo., Quartermaster...sd brig. was with Gen. Marion when attacked bh British at Pee Dee swamp. At beginning of war, her father lived Horry Dist., near Georgetown, S. C. and after close of war in Sumter Dist., S. C. Father d. 4/16/1837, his wife having d. 1809, and he applied for pension.

Joseph Habersham, Col. Harris, Maj. John McIntosh, 3 mos., lived Wilkes Co., Ga., was at battle of Savannah, disch. by Col. Samuel Elbert, which disch. was burned at taking and burning of Ft. Wells on Ogeechee River by indians and tories. Enl. 3/1777, militiaman, Ga. Line, Col. Samuel Elbert, 3 mos.,same officers. Enl. 6/16/1777, 3 mos., Ga. Militia, Ga. Line, Col. Samuel Elbert, in battle or skirmish at Savannah; enl. 9/16/1777, Ga. Militia, Ga. Line, same officers, skirmish at Amelia Island. Returned to his residence at Savannah where drafted, Ga. Line, 3 mos., Col. George Wells, Gen. Elijah Clarke, Capt. Charles Jordan, this deponent's father, sta. Ft. Wells on Ogeechee River; vol. 3 mos., Ga. Militia, Col. George Wells, then resident of Wilkes Co., Ga.; vol. 4/10/1778, 3 mos., sta. Ft. Wells; entered Ga. Militia under Col. George Dooley (who became Col. after death of John Dooley 7/20/1779, 3 mos., at Wilkes Co., Ga. Soldier was b. 8/18/1749 N. C., Duplin Co. A Bible belonging to his father was once in possession of his bro., Dempsey Jordan, now decd, formerly in Greene Co., Ga. He lived Wilkes, Washington, Lincoln, Jackson, Gwinnett, Henry, DeKalb, and Walton Co.'s in Ga. App. of Margaret Jordan 3/29/1855, aged 64, wid. of Samuel, stating she was Margaret Daniell who married Samuel Jordan 12/12/1821 in Gwinnett Co., Ga. (certified by Clk). Georgia, DeKalb Co., appl. of Margaret, wid. dtd 12/5/1853, aged 55, stating husband do Walton Co., Ga. in Charles Jordan's house 3//25/1835, a bro. of Dempsey, a Rev. War Soldier of Taliaferro Co., Ga.

JORDAN, Marshall, W9090, Kentucky, Clarke Co., appl. dtd 10/10/1850, letter from Marshall D. Jordan "a few days since I got letter addressed to my mother, Efferilla Jordan regarding increasing her pension, she died 1/13th last... II and he is one of her heirs. Sharshall Jordan d. 9/28/1813 Clarke Co., Ga. Appl. of Effarilla Jordan, aged 88, wid., dtd 12/11/1843, states husband was Lt. in Rev. War., in Militia from Culpepper Co., Va., commd. Ens. 2/2/1776, promoted to Lt. til close of war, Col. Thomas' Regt., Capt. Eusame, served 2-3 yrs., says he was gone from home half of his time and when he was gone she had to work in the corn field to provide for her chikldren. She had 4 children. She heard husband speak of being in several battles and has heard William Write, who drew a pension, and Martin Johnson say that they served under Lt. Marshall Jordan in war.

JORDAN, Thomas, R5759, Virginia, Page Co., apple dtd 10/27/1838, of Anna, aged 87, wid. of Thomas, Pvt. in Val Line, who received disabilities during capture of Hessians at Trenton and received pension as Invalid. She married 10/27/1891 husband who d. 7/24/,1817. Depositions of H. P. A. Davis and William R. Barber who were acquainted with late Mrs. Anna Jordan, wid. of late Thomas, and examined the Family Bible of Gabriel Jordan and wid. who d. 11/5/1838 and Gabriel's only living children of Anna and Thomas, on 2/28/1854. Virginia, Page Co., 2/22/1839, Gabriel Jordan, heir of late Anna Jordan who d. 11/5/1838, states that Thomas Jordan married Anna Barbee 10/27/1791 and had surviving children--Mary McDonald and Gabriel Jordan.

JORDAN, William, 10/2/1832, was Philadelphia, Pa., S8774, Virginia, Albemarle Co., apple dtd b. 1/20/1780 on Schuylkill River near at age of 13 moved to Augusta Co., Va.; enlisted home of his father-in-law in Kershaw Dist., S. C. and at close of war married the wid. Mary Kittles in Washington Co. abt 1791 and had 5 children, all of whom are now living. Mary Mann, wife of deponent George W. Kemp, resides in Gadsden Co., Fla.
