Wayne's Army, 6 mos. in pa.; served under Capt. Bell, Col. Locke, Gen. Rutherford; was in battle of Guilford and Long Swamp. She married 8/12/1789 Greenville Dist., S. C. as Elizabeth Grant. Husband d. 5/8/1820 Pickens Dist., S. C. Two children mentioned in affidavit of James M. Grant, Habersham Co., Ga., viz: William and Bird Caradine. Affidavits of William J. Grant, Rev. Joseph Grisham, Michael Speed, Catharine Tankersley, Col. Joseph Taylor.
CARDOZA, David N., W20830, South Carolina, Charleston, appl. dtd 7130/1832. Soldier was b. in New York City 8/29/1753, a record of his birth was in Archives of the Hebrew Congregation of City of New York. He arrived in Charleston, S. C. in 1770; enl. 1778, served as Sgt.-Major; was at siege of Savannah in 1779 and siege of Charleston where he was taken prisoner. Served under Col. Maurice Simonds, Lt. Col. Jacob Read, Major Alex Moultrie, Capt. Peter Boquet, 1st Lt. William Graham, 2nd Lt. Phillip Winn, 3rd Lt. John Smith. 7/13/1838, Mrs. Sarah Cardoza, widow, age 73, applied for pension, Charleston, S. C. Husband d. 7/13/ She married 1784. In 1852 only surviving children were: Jacob N., Judith and Isaac H. Cardoza, and Rachel Seixas.
CARGILE, John, S1687, North Carolina, Haywood Co., apple dtd 4/19/1836, enl. 5/1779 as Pvt., Pittsylvania Co., Va., 6 mos. as Ranger and Minuteman, Capt. James Hudgins, Col. John Wilson. Since war has lived in Wilkes, Burke and Rutherford Co.'s in N. C.; Spartanburg, S. C.; Buncombe and Haywood Co.'s, N. C.
CARGILE, Thomas, W6896, Alabama, Jackson Co., appl. dtd 10/2/1833 age 72. Enl. 4/1777 Wilkes Co., N. C. as Pvt., 16 yrs old, served Militia, Col. Knox. Discharged 1781. Served 4 yrs, .3 mos. in all. Moved Ala. abt 1816 (then Miss.). Soldier was b. 3/30/1762 in Va., but moved with his father to N. C. before the war. Widow, Mourning, drew pension from Marshall Co., Ala. She was Mourning Killingsworth and married 9/14/1845 in Marshall Co., Ala. Soldier d. 9/10/1847.
CARGILE, William, R1686, Alabama, Marshall Co., appl. dtd 3/13/1845 by Thomas Cargile who stated William lived Wilkes Co., N. C. when he vol. for 6 mos. in 1780 as horseman. William d. Wilkes Co., N. C. abt 5/10/1844 or 1845. Left children: Lewis, Jason, Joel, 2nd Jason, Rebecca, Polly, Peggy and Elizabeth, his LWT dtd 7/23/1842 Wilkes Co., N. C.
CARITHERS, Robert, W23779, Georgia, Madison Co., app1. dtd 9/3/1832. He was b. in Lancaster C., Pa. 3/30/1744. Lived in 96th Dist., S. C. when entered war as Pvt. 5/1781, when he recd a Captain's commission, which he held to end of war. Served under Capt. Robert Anderson, Col. Perkins, General Morgan. In several skirmishes with Tories by whom he was wounded in thigh at the Siege of 96. Soldier married Mary Luckie on 4/18/1782 in Abbevi11e Dist., S. C. 10/4/1832 in Madison Co., Ga. Affidavit by Amos Carithers 11/12/1852, age 32, as admr of Est. of Mrs. Mary Carithers, widow of Robert. Mary d. 2/8/1842, leaving children: Mary and Margaret. Other children: Elizabeth b. 1/30/1783, James b. 10/25/1784, Mary b. 9/11/1786 and b. 9/1788.

CARTER, Silas, R1758, Georgia, Washington Co. Silas Carter was born in 1752, Orange Co., North Carolina. He was a resident of Lexington District, South Carolina when he entered the war. About 1784, he removed from South Carolina to Onslow Co., North Carolina where he lived until 1818 when he removed to Washington Co., Ga.

CLOUD, Ezekiel, W6920, Georgia, Henry Co., appl. dtd 12/18/1832, was b. 3/14/1762, enl. Wilkes Co., Ga. 1778, served til 1779, abt 8 mos. under Col. John Dooley, Ga. Militia; enl. as Pvt. 9/1780, Capt. Daniel Gunnell, Capt. George Walton, Col. Elijah Clarke's Regt., was at siege of August ain 1780, had skirmishes at Shire's Ferry on Broad River, was in battle of Blackstock and 4/1781 in engagement on Little River in S. C. Enl. under Capt. Joseph Nail, was at siege of Augusta in 1781, fought Creek indians at Ft. Hinton, Ga., served til 5/1782. He d. 5/30/1850. Wid., Elizabeth.

Taylor in Albemarle Co., Va. Has wife, aged 60, and 7 children all living in extreme poverty and unable to contribute to his support.
COLLINS, John, W6735, Georgia, Hall Co., appl. dtd 1/27/1832, aged 73 as of Dec. 9th previously. 4/1776 the Cherokee indians broke out on S. C. frontiers and he vol. 5/10/1776 as Pvt., Militia, Capt. John McAfee, 6 mos., Col. Neal's Regt., marched to Seneca River, Ft. Independence, having frequent skirmishes; thence to the middle settlement of the Cherokee Nation where they defeated the indians. 10/1776 he went to his father's who lived in Camden Dist, S. C. and remained til 10/1778. Enl. as substitute for Moses Kemp, Pvt., Capt. Thomas Barron, marching to Brier Cr. where Gen. Ashe lay, til 3/17/1779, 2 mos. ,10 days. 1778 and 2 mos. 17 days 1779. Daniel McIntire hired him to take his place in N. C. Militia, 3 mos., Capt. Benjamin Harden, Col. Charles McDowell and Lt. Col. Hugh Tinning, marched to Charlotte, N. C., then Savannah, Ga., joining Gen. Lincoln, then to Brier Cr., to Bacon's Bridge, Ashley River, 3 mos. as Pvt. Was in N. C. Vols. under Capt. John G. Lowman, Col. Archibald Lytle and apptd Sgt-Maj. 12/1, taken prisoner at fall of Charleston 5/12th. Paroled Lincoln Co., N. C. After being home abt 2 mos., was taken by a parcel of tories and carried to where Col. Ferguson 1 ay with British, charged with violating his parole, found guilty, and sentenced to hang. But by a providential occurrence, he effected his escape, seeking refuge in army, and was at battle of Guilford, at Tarleton's defeat at Cowpens, and at Ferguson's defeat at Kings Mtn. Afterwards, he went to Henry Co., Va. where he substituted for William Jones, 2 mos. and was given rank of Lt., serving as Adjutant, marched to Petersburg, Va., but soon driven from there by British. Enl. under Col. Penn 4/12/1781, dis. 10/24/1781, at battle of Jamestown. Returned to his old home community in S. C. where reared til 3/1782 when he vol. for S. C. Militia, as Pvt., 2 mos., elected Capt., then marched to Orange burg Ct. House, then Four Holes Bridge, later Dorchester, then Bacon's Bridge, continued as Capt. til 10/1782. He was b. Frederick Co., Md. 12/9/1760 and at time of service lived Camden Dist., now York Dist., S. C., remained in S. C. abt 4 yrs. after war, then moved to Elbert Co., Ga. for 9 yrs. Removed to Franklin Co., Ga. for 18 yrs., or til 1813, when he moved to Hall Co. where he lived in 1834. 1/31/1853, Cobb Co., Ga., Mrs. Phebe Collins, wid., aged 82, states she was Phebe Sailors and married John Collins, Sr. in Burke Co., Ga. 11/30/1786, and that husband died Acworth, Ga. 3/8/1852, aged 91 yrs. old. COLLINS, Joseph, R2179, Georgia, Upson Co., application dtd 8/27/1833, was b. 5/15/1739 Rowan Co., N. C., in spring 1777 lived Wilkes Co., Ga. and enl. as Capt., serving 1777-1780 under Col. John Dooley and Col. Elijah Clarke, was in several excursions against indians and tories, at the two sieges of Augusta, where wounded with musketball passing through his arm, and at siege of Savannah. He d. 8/25/1838 Upson Co. His surviving children in 1853 were: Joseph, b. abt 1803, Enoch, Thomas, and Nancy who married Benjamin Cochran.
COMBS, John, S31626, Georgia, Wilkes Co., served in S. C. Militia, placed on pension roll of 1832, was b. 9/7/1764 Amelia Co., Va., lived Fairfield Dist., S. C. when enl. 1779 or 1780, 6 mos. under Capt. William Cooksey. Captured by tories and released after British took Charleston. Enl. as Pvt. in Capt. Manis Lisle's Co., Col. Hopkins S. C. Regt., sta. near Orange burg at Four Holes Bridge. In 1783 he removed to Wilkes Co., Ga. to live. CONNOR, Daniel, R2228, Clarke Co., Ga., apple dtd 3/3/1828, enl. in Capt. Micajah Williamson's Co., Col. Elijah Clarke, certified by E. Clarke that he was a Lt. in Capt. Micajah Williamson's Co. Va. Regt., removed to Warren Co" Ky, and d. 'lot 1835, aged 72.

C. under Gen. Gates. Was at RamSey'sMill in scrimage with tories, in battle of Camden, thence going to peedee, disch. after 5 moS. Drafted in Meckleburg Co., Va. into Capt. Thomas Faulks Co., 1782, joined his regt. at Gloster Old Field near Little york, Va. under Gen. Wheaten and remained in war til surrender of Lord cornwallis. 11/1851 before Court of pleas, Rockingham Co., N. C., Hannah Crawford, aged 78, appeared 10/10/1851, wid., stating husband d. 2/19/1842 and she married husband 12/27/1797; she later married Mr. Barrow; received pension in 1853.
CROSSON, John, W6766, Georgia, Lincoln Co., appl. dtd 2/14/1842 of Acsah (or Acksah) Lewis, wid. of John Crosson, b. 2/8/1769, stating she married John Crosson 7/3/1788 in Fauquier Co., Va., who was on 1818 pension roll as Pvt. in Fa. Troops, first pensioned in Ga. Served as pvt. in Col. Stewart'S Co., VA. Line, 13th Fa. Regt., enl. in Vincent Township, Fa. in 1776 under Capt. Tolbert and Capt. Pew, served in battles of Brandywine, White Plains, Germantown, and Monmouth, and died aged of 82, on 1/28/1838. Wid. died 1/21/1853 leaving children: Lewis Crosson, aged 65 of Ark.; Mary Jackson, aged 62 of Stewart Co., Ga.; Elizabeth Rozier, aged 60, of Stewart Co., Ga. wid. of Isham Rozier; Peninah Trammell, aged 58, w. of Thomas Trammell of Benton Co., Ark.; James Crosson, aged 57 of Ark.; and Field Crosson, aged 54, first of Lincoln Co., Ga., then Stewart Co., Ga., adm. of his mother's est.
