Lewis(?), Mamie was left as an orphan at an early age. She was brought up by Mrs. Lewis, a sister to Mrs. Jack Milton of Macon. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Milton visited the Laney home, near Holton, and identified the little girl as the one whom Mrs. Milton's sister, Mrs. Lewis, at Egypt Station, age 4 1/2 years old. She stayed with the Lewis family until two years ago, when she left and went to stay with a family named Gaffe, in Screven. She stayed with them until six months ago when she went to Savannah and obtained employment at Mrs. Bird's boarding house. The Miltons had a photograph of her, aged 7 years. Two weeks ago she left Savannah and came up to her old home, Egypt, and remaining there a day or two, she got a chance to go to Macon. She was terribly abused, evidenced by marks and bruises upon her person. The Constitution, Atlanta 8/15/1886
