Neal, John, one of Atlanta's oldest and truest citizens, died 1/4 in Atlanta. He was born in Warren Co. on 9/19/1796, resided in Eatonton until 1824, when he removed to Pike County, being one of its first settlers. He had two sons killed in battle, the elder, Colonel James Henry Neal, commanding the 49th Georgia Infantry, and Andrew J. Neal, Lieutenant in Marion (Florida) battery. He leaves a wife, with whom he has lived 51 years and five children; namely: Mr. T. B. Neal, Mrs. Judge Daniel Pittman, Mrs. Captain John Neely, Mrs. E. H. Thornton, all of Atlanta, and Mrs. Marey A. Murrell of Little Rock, Arkansas. His only living son, Mr. T. B. Neal, of Louisiana, at the request of his father, came to Atlanta several months ago to take charge of his business.
