Colonial Societies



These societies involve those descended from an ancestor active during the Colonial period, ending 4 Jul 1776.

Colonial Dames of America, founded in 1890, for women of lineal descent from a worthy ancestor who held public office, or commission in armed forces from 13 May 1607 to 19 Apr 1774.

Colonial Order of the Acorn, founded in 1894 for male lineal descendants of residents of an American colony before 4 Jul 1776, limited to 200.

Colonial Society of Pennsylvania, founded in 1895 for male lineal descendants of an ancestor who settled in any American colony before 1700.

Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence, founded in 1907 for all lineal descendants.

Flagon and Trencher-Descendants of Colonial Tavernkeepers, founded in 1962 for men and women who are lineal descendants of persons conducting a tavern, inn, ordinary, or hostelry before 4 Jul 1776.

Hereditary Order of the Descendants of Colonial Governors, founded in 1896 for descendants of those men who exercised supreme executive power in the American colonies before 1775, with membership by invitation only.

National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, founded in 1891 for women of lineal descent from a resident of the American colony prior to 1750 who rendered efficient service to his or her country before 5 Jul 1776, including the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

National Society of the Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century, founded in 1896 for women lineally descended from an ancestor who rendered service from 1607 through 1699, membership by invitation only.

National Society of Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, founded in 1915 for women of lineal descent of an ancestor who lived in one of t he 11 British colonies of America before 1701. National Society of Daughters of the American Colonists, formed in 1921 for demale lineal descendants of those who rendered civil or military service in the colonies before 4 Jul 1776.

National Society of the Children of the American Colonists, founded in 1939 for any child up to age 21, a lineal descendant from an ancestor who served in civil or military service before 4 Jul 1776.

National Society of Dames of the Court or Honor founded in 1921 for female lineal descendants of a colonial governor or commissioned officers during the American wars, 1607-1865. Membership by invitation only.

National Society of Lords of the Maryland Manors, founded in 1938 for lineal descendants of the first Baron Baltimore, or of one or more of the colonists who were granted by the Lord Proprietor of Maryland a manor in fee simple before 1722.

National Society Southern Dames of America, organized in 1962 for verified Southern ancestry. Membership by invitation only.

Order of American of Armorial Ancestry, founded in 1903 for lineal descendants of an immigrant in one of the original colonies who had a proven right to bear coat armor in the country of his or her origin.

Order of Colonial Lords of Manors in America, founded in 1911 for lineal descendants of the order's 27 recognized patroons, lord of the manor, or seigniors. Membership by invitation only.

Order of Descendants of Colonial Physicans and Chirugieons, organized in 1874 for men and women who are lineal descendants of a physician, chirsurgieon, or licensed midwife, practicing through 1783 in North America. Membership by invitation only.

Society of Descendants of the Colonial Clergy founded 1933 for lineal descendants of any clergyman in the colonies before 4 Jul 1776.

Vermont Society of Colonial Dames organized in 1897 for women of lineal descent from ancestors who served in the colonial period in public office.
