Dinwiddie County was created on May 1, 1752 and was taken from Prince George County. It was named after Robert Dinwiddie, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 1751 to 1758. The Dinwiddie County Historical Society currently occupies the old historic Dinwiddie County Court House.
