Deaths of Members in the Journal of Virginia House of Burgesses



1702 to 1711

Armistead. Anthony Armistead died during the fourth session and was succeeded by Nicholas Curle.

Ballard. Thomas Ballard, duly elected and returned a member, died before taking his feat and was probably succeeded by William Buckner.

Gwyn. David Gwyn died some time before the opening of the four session.

Hardiman. John Hardiman died before the opening of the second session.

Leigh. William Leigh died before the opening of the third session and was succeeded by John Walker.

Parker. Thomas Parker was declared elected in place of Littlebury Epes. Parker died sometime before 20th of November 1710.

Randolph. William Randolph died before the opening of the second session.

Thacker. Edwin Thacker died some time before before the opening of the third session and was succeeded by William Churchill.

Swan. Thomas Swan died before the opening of the third session and was succeeded by Daniel Sullivant.

1712 to 1726

Beverley. Robert Beverley died before the opening of the second session, being succeeded by Richard Johnson.

Burwell. James Burwell died before the opening of the seconnd session and was succeeded by Lawrence Smith.

Cary. William Cary died before the opening of the second session and was succeeded by Miles Wills.

Curle. Nicholas Curle died some time before the opening of the tird session and was succeeded by Robert Armistead.

Goodrich. Edward Goodrich died before taking his feat as a member. He was succeeded by John Hamlin.

McCarty. Daniel McCarty died before the opening of the second session, and was succeeded by Thomas Lee.

Meriwether. Francis Meriwether died before the opening of the third session and was succeeded by Orlando Jones.

Ricketts. James Ricketts died before the opening of the second session, and was succeeded by Thomas Marshall.

Robinson. Tully Robinson died before the opening of the second session and was succeeded by Henry Scarburgh.

Teackle. John Teackle, dying before the opening of the second session, was succeeded by Tully Robinson.

Waters. William Waters, dying before the opening of the second session, was succeeded by Thomas Harmanson.

1727 to 1734

Acrill. William Acrill died and was succeeded by Richard Kennon.

Andrews. William Andrews accepted the office of inspector (p. 119) and was succeeded by Samuel Ewell who died a few days before the close of the fourth session.

Barnsdall. Edward Barnsdall died and was succeeded by Beverley Randolph.

Blair. Archibald Blair died some time preceding the opening of the fourth session. He was probably succeeded by his son, John Blair.

Bridger. Before the pening of the third session, Mr. William Bridger died and Mr. Joseph Godwyn was appointed an inspector of tobacco.

Brodnax. Edward Brodnax died and Benjamin Harrison succeeded him.

Buckner. Richard Buckner died some time before the opening of the fourth session.

Cargill. John Cargill died and was succeeded by Richard Cocke.

Eaton. John Eaton died.

Edmunds. Thomas Edmunds died before the opening of the second session.

Eggleton. Mr. Joseph Eggleton died before the opening of the third session.

Fitzhugh. Henry Fitzhugh died and was succeeded by James Waugh.

Fleming. Robert Fleming died and was succeeded by Joh n Martin.

Lyde. Cornelius Lyde died and was succeeded by John Aylett.Sir John Randolph died and was succeeded by Edward Barradall.

Parker. Sacker Parker died and was succeeded by Edmund Scarburg.

Scott. Edward Scott died and was succeeded by Isham Randolph.

Smith. Lawrence Smith died and was suceeded by Beverley Whiting.

Strother/Smith. Both Mr. William Strother and Mr. Nicholas Smith died before the opening of the fourth session. One was succeeded by Mr. John Champ and the other was probably succeeded by Mr. William Robinson.

John Syme, dying, was succeeded by Matthew Anderson.

1742 to 1748

Baffett. William Baffett dying, an address was made to the governor to order a new election.

McCart. Daniel McCart died and was succeeded by George Lee.

Randolph. Richard Randolph died and was succeeded by Peter Randolph.

1758 to 1761

Booker. At the session of the Assembly held in May, 1760, the governor was notified by the burgesses of the death of Richard Booker.

Waller. William Waller died some time before the March Session, 1760.
