Woodley from Devonshire to Isle of Wight County, Virginia
The pedigree of the Woodley family of Halsanger, Devon, beginning in 1438 is shown in Vivians Visitations of Devon (Vol. 2, page 858). Andrew Woodley came to Isle of Wight. The court certified on 9 Mar 1693that there was due to Andrew Woodley 600 acres
of land for the transportation of himself foour times; his wife and two names, namely, Henry and Thomas and five negroes.
In 1693 James Baron granted to Andrew Woodley for 7000 pounds of tobacco 640 acres patented by Anthony Matthews in 1664
and devised by him to the said James Baron. Also, in 1699, Edward Cobb coold him 202 acres called Little Neck.
The will of Andrew Woodley was dated 1718 wherein he left Little Neck to his son Thomas, and to his son, Nottoway Neck.
- Thomas Woodley served on he Vestry of the Old Brick Church from 1728 until his death in 1754. He had a son named John
who died intestate in 1779 (who was the father of another Andrew Woodley who married his cousin Elizabeth Hill Harrison).
- John Woodley made his will in 1724, leaving a son, John Woodley.
- Mary Woodley married Joseph Copeland.
