John Walden was the son of Lord John Walden of Ravensworth Castle, England. He settled in Leyton, Essex County, Virginia in 1715. Later, he removed his home to Caroline County "Walden Towers." This site is about nine miles from Bowling Green.
Richard Walden, son of John Walden, was married to Candace Hubbard. In 1761 he received land grants in Pittsylvania County; also being granted 565 acres in Campbell County lying across the Staunton River. In 1767, he was commissioned captain of the militia in Campbell County. His Last Will and Testament dated 1790 named his children, viz:
- John Walden, settled in Caroline County. Wife, Sally. His father bequeathed him a tract of land in Pittsylvania County.
- Charles Walden inherited the home plantation in Pittsylvania County after the death of his mother. He was married to Elizabeth, a daughter of Colonel Charles F. Wall. He served in the Revolutionary War.
- Richard Walden, died 1793 in Campbell County. Issue:
- Richard Walden, Jr., inherited from his father the 565 acre tract in Campbell County located on the north side of the Staunton River (granted by patent from King George III). During the Revolutionary War he was commissioned an ensign; served under Captain Jacobus Early at the battle of Guilford Court House; promoted to captain.
