CHRISTOPHER STOKES of Stokes of Stanhawes, Gloucester, England, migrated to Virginia in 1624, died before 1646, his LWT having been lost, was a Member of the House of Burgesses 10/1629.
He lived in York Co., on the Charles River. County Court of York Co., 5/25/1648: Whereas, Christopher Stokes, did, by his Will, give to his sons, Christopher, William, Francis and Thomas, an estate; whereas the said Thomas has since died, the Court doth order that Edward Miles, guardian, do take charge.... Issue:
- CHRISTOPHER STOKES, JR. received the following Land Patents: 7/21/1635, 300 acres on Charles River; 8/15/1637, 300 acres on Charles River; and 5/20/1638, 400 acres on Warwick River. His wife, Beatrice, had two brothers, William and Francis. No issue.

To son, Joseph C., not 21, stock in William Patterson & Co. To children of Ann Early, 811 acres on n. fork of Broad River. P. 295, History of Wilkes County, "Armistead Stokes, who intermarried withSally Anthony, relict of Micajah Anthony, deed. Sally Stokes the said relict and Micajah Anthony the only child of said Micajah, by his guardian, Armistead Stokes. Their petition stating that in 1787 Micajah in his lifetime entered into an agreement with his brother, Joseph Anthony to build a saw and grist mill, now known as Brown's Mill, formerly Anthony's Mills on Fishing Cr. In 1789 said Joseph applied to said Micajah to buy his part and give in exchange 200 acres on Fishing Cr., it being the land whereon said Micajah lived, provided Micajah would allow his mother to live on said land as she lived, which Micajah allowed and she lived some years afterwards. Soon after the death of Micajah, Joseph had the land surveyed but refuses to convey it to your orators. Subpoena issued 12/11/1804."

iii. Archibald Young Stokes, b. 3/21/1773, d. 8/27/1843, Mills, Texas, bur. Family Vault, Madison Cemetery, m. Martha Lamar of Beach Island, Edgefield Dist., S. C., dau of Thomas Lamar from Md. who settled in N. C. 10 yrs. after the Revolution. b. 2/28/1777, d. 5/30/1846, Bible owned by Eliza Stokes of Madison, Ga.
