Sir William Starling was Lord Mayor of London in 1670. His son, William, was the father of Roderick Starling who married Miss Hubbard and gave birth to a son, William Starling, the first to come to America.
William Starling settled in King William County in 1740 and was married to Jane Gordon. Issue:
- William Starling, born 1756, died 1826, was married to Susanna Lyne in 1774. He must have been orphaned, because his guardian was Colonel William Lyne, the father of Susanna. The father was not happy with the marriage, and afterwards they removed to Mecklenburg County, Virginia where he was Sheriff before finally removing to Kentucky in 1794. He represented Mercer County in the Kentucky Legislature and was appointed assistant Judge in 1806. They had eleven children. Issue:
- Thomas Starling, born 3 Sept 1779 in Henry County, Virginia. When his father removed to Kentucky, his uncle Henry Lyne adopted him when sixteen years old and brought him to Henry County. He was married to Annie, the daughter of Major John Redd in 1803, and died in 1852. Issue: Susanna, William, Overton, John R., Elizabeth, Jane G., Lyne and Edmund Thomas Starling.
