John Marshall first appeared in the county which he was sold 100 acres by John Valentine located adjacent to Everett Roberts and down the creek which lead to the church, on 13 Jan 1638. He must have married first, Elizabeth. In 1666, Elizabeth, the widow of William Westray, deeded her estate to John Marshall and Humphrey Marshall, his son, as evidence "to my children John and Humphrey Marshall." Issue:
- John Marshall, patented 200 acres in Isle of Wight County in 1655; 120 acres of the same patent being assigned by John Valentine and 80 acres adjoining his own land. His last will and testament dated 1688 mentioned his brother, Humphrey Marshall.
- Humphrey Marshall, died 1711, the date of his will, leaving several daughters, viz: Anne, who married Captain Henry Applewhaite; Mary, who married Thomas Hill.
- Robert Marshall died 1698 and left six children under age. Wife, Mary, made her will in 1739 and mentioned all of the children except Joseph who had died intestate in 1728. Issue:
- Humphrey Marshall.
- Joseph Marshall.
- John Marshall.
- James Marshall, his will dated 1759.
- Robert Marshall, his will dated 1757.
- Mary Marshall, married Penny.
- Elizabeth Marshall, married Robertson.
