  • JESSE LANE was b. 7/3/1733 Halifax Co., N. C., removed to Georgia about 1784. He m. Winifred Aycock, b. 4/11/1741, d. 1794 Clarke County, Georgia, in 1755, a daughter of William Aycock and his wife, Rebecca Pace. Jesse was an officer in the Revolutionary War, and served with his son, John Lane, in the Battle of Kings Mountain, N. C. He lived in Oglethorpe Co., then Jackson Co., finally Clarke Co. where ie died in 1806. Issue:
    1. CHARLES LANE, b. 10/22/1756 Johnson Co., N. C., d, 4/9/1837 Gasconade Co., Mo., m. Elizabeth Mallory 11/19/1789 (she d. 8/10/1818 Mo.) He 1ived in Franklln Co., Ga. on over 1000 acres belonging to his wife on Grove River and Chandlers Creek, pt of which lies in the northern part of Jackson Co., Ga., Also, 1790-92 Wilkes Co. Tax Digest, he declared 1087 1/2 acres in Franklin Co., 250 acres in Wilkes Co., 1-1/2 polls, 1 slave. Revolutionary War Soldier, be applied for pension 11/11/1836 from Gasconade Co., Mo., stating while living in Wilkes Co., Ga. he enlisted 1776; afterwards moved to N. C., served N. C. Militia; 5/1783 elected in Wilkes Co., Ga., Capt. in Col. Elijah Clarke's Ga. Regt. He lived in GA. Until 1795, thee Y. C. until 1816 or 1817, then moved to Missouri. LWT of Charles Lane, Gasconade Co., Mo. dtd 4/8/1833, names children.

Southern Christian Advocate dated 12/16/1842: "Mrs. Mary Freeman, wife of William Freeman, died Oct. 16, 1842, aged about 90. She was left an orphan when three years old in Wake Co., N. C. and was married soon after the Revolution to Richard Lane; the winter of 1753-4 they moved to Wilkes Co., now Oglethorpe Co., Georgia where her first husband died. She married second William Freeman. Had five sons of first marriage and two sons, three daughters by last marriage." The LWT of Richard Lane, Oglethorpe Co., Ga., Bk 1793-1807, p. 1, dtd 1793, pvd 1794, leaving wife, Mary, entire estate, until his son, Samuel, arrives at age of 21. ?lames children: Mary, Samuel and Henry, and states that his wife "is now pregnant."       5. Henry Lane, b. 1784 N. C., m. Martha Herring 1/1/1809 Clarke Co., Ga., they are mentioned in LWT of her father, William Herring dtd 1812, pvd 1813, Clarke Co., Ga. Memoirs of Georgia, published 1895, Henry Lane was Methodist Minister who came to Ga. the latter part of 1700's and settled in Coweta Co., then Heard, finally move to Ala. Listed on 1815 Clarke Co. Tax Digest, 1820 Morgan Co. Census, 2830 Newton Co. Census and 1840 Heard Co. Census, 1850 Newton Co., Ga. Census. He had two sons born between 1810 and 1820, three daus. born between 1804 and 1810, and one son born between 1804 and 1810. Memoirs of Georgia refers to a son, Collingsworth Lane, b. in 1819. Ane of his sons, William D. Lane, named his father, Henry Lane, in his LWT in Newton Co.

      12. SIMEON LANE, b. 3/10/1771 Halifax Co., N. C., m. Judith Humphreys, dau. of Uriah Humphreys, whose LWT is dtd 1816 Clarke Co., Ga. naming his dau., Judy Lane. Simeon Lane listed 1797 and 1798 Jackson Co, Tax Digest. Judith Lane sold some land 6/15/1813 in Jackson Co, to B. Harris and M. Williamson, Bk D, P. 233. Simeon Lane moved to Walker Co., A1a. where found on 1850 Census.
