Jones of Charles City County


David Jones was born in 1594 in England, died between 1665 and 1673. David Jones patented 300 acres of land in Charles City Co., Virginia on 4 July 1635 "over against Tapahanna Marsh, for the transportation of six persons."

Charles City Co., Virginia. From Virginia Colonial Abstracts, p. 524:
"To the Worp his Ma'ts Justices of Charles Citty Com. The Petition of Thomas Blanton Humbly sheweth That Mr. David Jones by his will left John Jones and what estate he had to your petitioner till he came to the age of seventeen and then to have what he left him into his owne hands. Which will your petitioner hath performed in delivering to him what his grandfather left him. Now so it is that your petitioner informed that has delivered it in his owne wrong notwithstanding the will, therein your petitioner humbly craveth that for his honest meaning he may not be damnified either that he may be now cleared or that he may have it till John Jones came to age and he to be in duty bound shall ever pray. Upon this petition this Court are of the opinion that the will of David Jones should and ought to be kept invyolable."

  • Richard Jones. Charles City Co., Virginia deed dated 12 October 1655, Mr. Richard Jones, minister, sold to John Banister in Merchants Hope, a parcel of land adj. Robert Jones, Levill, James Warradine, etc.
  • John Jones was born 1656 in Surry Co., Virginia, died 1662 in Charles City Co., Virginia. Charles City Co. Court Orders, 1661-1664, p. 343, "Ordered that the orphans of John Jones, deceased, be and remayne with and in the custody of their grandfather, Mr. David Jones, who is impowered to require, receive and preserve all estates to them belonging and render the same intirely to them at their full age and at their full age and at his decease to remitt them and their estate to such guardian or guardians as he shall appoint with the approbation of the Court."
