Jamison of Pennsylvania and Virginia


The family begins with James Jamison (1650-1720) who came from Scotland about 1700 to settle in York County, Pennsylvania. He had a son, Captain John Jamison (born 1680) who served in the Indian Wars; also in the Augusta County, Virginia Militia.

Capt. Thomas Jamison (1732-1830), son of Capt. John (above),also served in the Indian Wards and enlisted into the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He signed the Declaration of Independence from Albemarle County, Virginia in 1779. Capt. Jamison was married to Jane Dickey (1742-1763) of Loudoun County, Virginia.

Capt. John Jamison (1758-1842), son of Capt. Thomas (above), enlisted into the Revolutionary War and served throughout. He was married in 1778 to Elizabeth McWilliams of Henry County, Virginia.

John Jamison (1783-1864), son of Capt. John (above), planter, owned large tracts of land in Franklin County, Virginia. He served in the War of 1812. In 1806 he was married to Katherine Boone (1785-1866), daughter of Jacob Boone (1744-1814) who founded the town of Boone Mill in Franklin County.

John Jamison (1824-1900), son of John (above), farmer, resided at White Oak Stand Franklin County, VIrginia. He enlisted into the Confederate Army, serving in Co. G, 37th Virginia Cavalry. John was married in 1844 to Elizabeth Akers (1824-1859), a daughter of William Akers (1802-1867) of Cherry Knob in Franklin County. Issue:

  1. Martha Jamison (1845-1846).
  2. Sarah Elizabeth Jamison, born 1846, married in 1864 James W. Boitnott.

  3. John William Jamison was born 22 Jan 1849 at Dillon's Mill, Virginia. He was married on 4 April 1878 to Sarah Elizabeth Webster (born 14 Sep 1849 Dillons Mill).
  4. Lucy Ann Jamison (1851-1918).
  5. Hannah Katherine Jamison, born 1853, married in 1869 Joel L. Webster.
  6. Sue L. Jamison, born 1856.
  7. Samuel Henry Jamison (1858-1826) married Lee Turnbull in 1881.
