Peter Hairston left Scotland when James VI ascended to the throne. His wife died before he left Scotland and was mentioned as an "Irish lady of rank." He brought to Virginia four sons and one daughter. One daughter, Agnes, died during the voyage and was buried at sea. Issue:
- Samuel Hairston, Revolutionaary War soldier, Lieutenant of a Militia from Bedford County; served as a member of the House of Burgesses. Settled in Campbell County. He had three sons and seven daughters. Issue:
- George Hairston.
- Peter Hairston.
- Sam Hairston.
Robert Hairston, Captain during the Revolutionary War, was married in 1749 to Ruth Stovall, daughter of George Stovall, Clerk of the House of Burgesses. He established the first Hairston home in Henry County, called "Marrowbone" about 1775. His son, George (married Elizabeth Perkins) inherited the homeplace. George also built a home on Beaver Creek, where he is buried. Marrowbone descended from father to son down to the fifth generation. Issue:
- George Hairston, inherited Marrowbone, was married in 1781 to Elizabeth Perkins, the daughter of Nicholas and Bethenia (Harden) Perkins, widow of Captain William Letcher who was killed by tories. The infant daughter of the Letchers was raised in the Hairston home. George served as a Captain in the Regiment of Colonel Penn in 1781. He donated fifty acres as a site for the Henry County court house. During the War of 1812 he commanded the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 36th North Carolina Regiments and was acting Brigadier General. George Hairston died in 1827, Bethenia died in 1818. Issue:
- Robert Hairston, married Ruth Wilson. He settled at Berry Hill. During the invasion of Canada, he commanded a company in Scotts Army; also served one term in the Virginia Legislature before removing to Lowndes County, Mississippiwhere he died in 1852. No issue.
- George Hairston, born 1784, married in 1811 Louisa Hardyman, inherited Marrowbone. He represented Henry County in the House off Delegates and Senate. Issue:
- Louisa Hairston married Virginius Williams.
- Elizabeth Hairston married Livingston Claiborn.
- Sallie Eppes Hairston marrried John S. Redd.
- George Cabell Hairston married Ann Powell Lash.
- John Tyler Hairston married Bettie Brown Dillard.
- Hardyman Hairston, unmarried.
- Powhatan Hairston, unmarried.
- Harden Hairston, born 1786, married Sarah Staples. Served as the master of transportation for the Southern Division of the Army in 1812. Removed to Lowndes County, Mississippi where he died in 1862.
- Samuel Hairston, married his cousin, Agnes Wilson. They resided at Oak Hill in Pittsylvania County. During the War of 1812 he served under general Scott as Lieutenant.
- Nickolas Hairston, unmarried.
- Henry Hairston, born 1793, married Mary Ewell. Settled at Yallabusha, Mississippi.
- Peter Hairston, unmarried.
- Constantine Hairston, unmarried.
- John Adams Hairston, married Malinda Corn. Removed to Yallabusha, Mississippi.
- America Hairston, married John Calloway.
- Marshall Hairston, born 1802, married Ann Hairston, a cousin. Resided at Beaver Creek. They had one son, Joun, who was killed during the battle of Williamsburg in 1862.
- Ruth Hairston, married Peter Hairston oof Franklin County.
Peter Hairston, Revolutionary War Soldier, served as captain of a company of Virginia troops, unmarried. His last will and testament recorded in Bedford County, Virginia in 1780. Andrew Hairston left a large estate to his wife and three daughters, already having provided for his two sons, Peter andd Hugh.
