Captain Thomas Graves, immigrant to Virginia in the ship Mary and Margaret, a supply ship to Virginia, in 1607. Unfortunately, upon his arrival he was captured by the indians and held in the village of Opechancanough until rescued by Ensign Thomas Savage. Later, these men settled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Captain Thomas Graves was among those in the first General Assembly which met at Jamestown on 30 July 1619. Then he was a Burgess in Accomac County, commander of the plantation at Accomac, a Justice and Vestryman. Captain Graves died in 1636.
John Graves, a son of Captain Thomas Graves, resided in York County and had two sons, viz: Ralph Graves and William Graves. Ralph Graves was married to Rachel, a daughter of Major Joseph Croshaw and resided on the Mattaponi River in York County.
The Last Will and Testament of Ralph Graves dated 1748/9, probated 1749, devised to his son, Henry Graves, the land at Skimeno which formerly belonged to his uncle William Graves.
