The name was originally spelled "Foljambe" and originated in York and Derbyshire in England. The Arms were:"Sable, a bend or between six escallops, or."A land patent in Virginia was issued to Anthony Fulliambe and Silvester Thacker for 100 acres on Pagan Point in 1643. In 1650 he patented 500 acres on the north side of the Rappahannock River; in 1662 this parent was assigned to Captain John Wear. On 12 Jul 1665 Anthony patented 1600 acres at the head of the Western Branch of Mr. Boddie's marked trees for the transportation of 20 persons. Among those persons were Anthony Fulgham, John Fulgham, William Bressie and Susan his wife. On the same day John Marshall received a grant of 700 acres adjacent to Captain Fulghams grant and six of his headrights were assigned to him by William Boddie who also that same day was granted 3350 acres lying next to Fulghams and Marshalls grants. Susanna Bressie was a sister of the Rev. Roland Jones, the first minister of Bruton Parish in York County. Both Fulgham and Marshall were followers of Nathaniel Bacon and participated in his Rebellion against the rule of Governor Berkeley. They both signed the Isle of Wight "Grievances" submitted to the Royal Commissioners in 1777.
