Franklin of Campbell County

The Franklins of Virginia are supposed to be descended from John Franklin of Ecton Village in Northamptonshire, England in 1685. Benjamin Franklin is supposed to be part of this lineage.

Owen Franklin patented 49 acres of land in 1773 on both sides of Mortons Creek, a fork of Falling River and in 1788 purchased from Pleasant Branch, 182 acres of land on the south side of Mortons Creek along the Thomas Franklin line. Other land patents in this general vicinity were those of Lewis Franklin (1749), Edmund Franklin (1780) and Edmund Franklin. Edmund and Owen Franklin served as ensigns during the Revolutionary War. The Last Will and Testament of Owen Franklin was recorded in 1795 and mentioned sons, Benjamin and Isaac M., and daughter, Nancy. Robert Franklin administered the estate and in 1811 he made an official complaint that Owen Franklin (deceased) who served as deputy sheriff of Campbell County had delinquent taxes charged against him for which he was not responsible.

The home of Colonel Robert Franklin was near Concort and included Pilot Mountain. Robert was married to Miss Lewis, who was only eleven years of age at the time. His will was recorded in 1831 wherein he appointed his sons, Benjamin and Lewis Franklin as executors; witnessed by Robert Franklin Jr., David Robertson and John Shannon. Issue of Robert Franklin:
