Estes of Henry County
The family is supposed to have roots from Ringwould, Kent, England.
Robert Estes, born 1691, settled in King and Queen County, Virginia, and died 13 April 1776 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He was married to Mary Nee. Known Issue:
Robert Estes, born 1726, resided in Lunenburg County, died 27 Oct 1782.

Benjamin Estes, born 1 Jan 1735/1736 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, died 27 Sept 1811 in Maury County, Tennessee. This information from AFN:LWFM-2R, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Benjamin Estes settled first in Bedford County before removing to Henry County. He was married to Selah Thorpe, sometime during the Revolutionary War. Issue:
- Nancy Estes married in 1792 Jesse Fears, a Revolutionary War Soldier (he died in 1816).
- Elizabeth Estes married Mr. Hughes.
- Lucy Estes, married Mr. Morton.
- Joel Estes.
- Benjamin Estes was married to Peggy Neal, who died without issue. He married second, Eliza M., a daughter of Thomas Dix and Lucy (Miller) Dix of Henry County. The family removed to Halifax County (now Pittsylvania County) where Benjamin died in 1868. Issue:
- Joseph Estes, born in 1838, never married; served as a Lieutenant during the War Between The States.
- Thomas Estes, died young.
- Edward Estes, born in 1840, married Unie Fontaine, a great granddaughter of Patrick Henry. Issue: Edward Harrison Estes; James Dabney Estes and William Dix Estes.
- Elisha Estes, never married.
- Benjamin Estes, born in 1848, married Bell Rodery, the widow of Mr. Collier. Issue: Lucy Estates.
- James Dabney Estes, physician, was born 31 Jan 1836, married Nannie Leake, no issue. He served a four year term as a surgeon during the War Between the States under General Robert E. Lee.
