Leonard Dozier


"The first Leonard Dozier came from France and died in 1693 in Westmoreland Co., Va. His wife was named Elizabeth." This from a notation in the Leonard Dozier Bible by Mrs. James Nuckols of Columbus, Ga. Leonard Dozier first lived in South Carolina, then removed to Elbert Co., Ga. Their children:

  2. Susannah Dozier, daughter, born 11/16/1739
  3. John Dozier, son, born 12/2/1741, died in South Carolina
  4. William Dozier, son, born 3/16/1743
  5. Jemima Dozier, daughter, born 5/22/1746
  6. Keziah Dozier, daughter, born 5/26/1749
  7. Leonard Dozier, son, born 5/7/1751 m. 1/30/1773 Anne Gayle.
  8. Thomas Dozier, son, born 6/29/1753, married Catherine (1777-1836), daughter of Thomas and M. A. White. She is buried in the Wrightsboro Churchyard, McDuffie County.

  10. Richard Dozier, son, born 8/15/1760
Another family, Green Jones Dozier, was b. 9/7/1793, the son of John and Frances Dozier, m. Constantia Hunt (b. 9/25/1794) on 7/29/1813 in Columbia Co. Constantia Hunt b. 9/25/1794 and was the daughter of Thomas and Isabella Hunt. The LWT of Green Dozier dated 2/18/1873, probated 2/1876 in Columbia Co. Named his children: William Dozier, Erasmus J. Dozier and daughter, Salina Smith. Also named the children of his deceased sons and daughters, viz: Albert Dozier, Williamson Dozier, Frances Hardwick (m. William W. Hardwick, Columbia Co. 8/9/1832), Martha Peoples. To children of deceased son, Albert, to receive in part of their portion. My sons, William and Ignatius are indebted to daughter, Salina for about $1200, which is to be paid out of their share of the estate.

" Obituary. Died at her residence in Columbia County on morning of 16th instant, Mrs. Constantia H. Dozier, consort of Green J. Dozier, in the sixty-fourth year of her age." (Obituary in Bible). Mrs. Constance W. Dozier, wife of G. J. Dozier, 3/16/1858, in the 64th year of her age. Their children:

  3. Frances J. Dozier 4/1--/1817 m. 8/183--William Hardwick
  4. Albert Green Dozier b. 6/4/1819 Columbia Co., Ga., d. 12/31/1862 m. Jane Margaret Powers (b. 7/5/1812), daughter of Nicholas and Mary M. Powers, on 8/17/1837 Resident of Pleasant Grove in Oglethorpe Co. Children.
         
    1. Nicholas Green Dozier born 9/12/1838 Columbia Co., died 12/16/1853. Buried in Hunt Cemetery, Columbia Co.    
    2. Mary Constantia Dozier born 7/20/1840 Poplar Grove, Columbia Co., died 2/8/1878 Thomson
