Dodson of Dinwiddie County, Virginia and Georgia

Daniel Dodson, Revolutionary War Soldier, signed a Petition dated 14 November 1789 (C. N. page 62, Vol. 26) The William and Mary Quarterly (1), page 197 lists of tithes and taxable property (1782) Daniel Dodson of Dinwiddie County, Virginia; in 1785 he paid taxes in Pittsylvania County, 9 family members.) He had three known sons, Joshua (born 1754, a Revolutionary War Soldier), William (Revolutionary War Soldier) and Daniel who came to Georgia.

Daniel Dodson was born 29 April 1769, and died 25 February 1848, buried in the Elam Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Forest Park, Georgia (Clayton County). He married Sarah Peters (1774-30 July 1863) in June of 1792 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. Sarah is also buried in the same churchyard. Issue:

• Joshua Dodson, born 7 June 1794, died in Henry County, Georgia.
• Edmund Dodson, born 13 January 1796, removed to Alabama where he died on 10 December 1882 in Benton County
• Nancy Dodson, born 24 February 1798.
• Lochy Dodson, born 14 February 1801.
• Elijah Dodson, born 24 February 1804, died 1894 in Henry County. In 1880, he was widowed and a resident of Campbell County, residing with his daughter, Martha M. Dodson (born 1850).
• John Peters Dodson, born 17 February 1806 died 27 March 1877 in Henry of Fayette County.
• William Dodson, born 1 March 1808 in Jasper County, Georgia, died 22 March 1877. He married Elizabeth Brown (born 13 July 1811, died 1 February 1891) on 2 November 1828, a daughter of John Brown and his wife, Mary (Stovall) Brown. William owned over 800 acres of land in Henry County. He must have resided in that part of Henry which later became Clayton County, because his estate was administered in Clayton County on 22 March 1877. Issue:

  1. Daniel W. Dodson, born 25 November 1829, died 1897. Wife, Mary, born 1835. They were farmers in Cedartown, Polk County, in 1880. Issue:

     1. M. C. Dodson (daughter), born 1856 in Georgia.
     2. S. C. Dodson (daughter), born 1862 in Georgia.
     3. Malinda Dodson, born 1865 in Georgia.
     4. E. W. Dodson (son), born 1870 in Cedartown.
     5. S. G. Dodson (son), born 1873 in Cedartown.

  2. John B. Dodson, born 16 November 1830, died 6 May 1877.
  3. Susanna Dodson, born 6 September 1833.
  4. Edmund Dodson, born 3 September 1835, died 3 December 1835.
  5. Joshua D. Dodson, born 28 January 1837, died 6 June 1877.

  7. Sarah Dodson, born 31 August 1840.
  8. Mary E. Dodson, born 27 February 1842.
  9. Elijah M. Dodson, born 23 January 1844, died 3 November 1863.

  11. Stephen D. Dodson, born 30 December 1846.
  12. Nancy A. Dodson, born 18 January 1849.
  13. James B. S. Dodson, born 20 October 1851.
  14. Warren M. Dodson, born 29 September 1853, died 6 July 1854.

• Stephen Dodson, born 28 January 1813, died 11 May 1879.
