Dillard of Henry County
James Dillard was born 15 October 1727 in Williamsburg, in James City County, Virginia, died 24 August 1794 in Amherst County, married on 4 Jul 1748 in Amherst County to Mary Hunt of Essex County (1734-1748).
Issue:
- Colonel John Dillard, son of James Dillard, was born 1751 in Amherst County. He served as an officer in the Colonial Militia of Virginia; also a magristrate of the King and High Sheriff of Amherst County. He was wounded at the battle of Princeton; later commissioned captain of the Committee of Safety of Pittsylvania County. He was a member of the Legislature from Henry County 1785 to 1786. He died 1882.
Issue:
- General John Dillard, son of Colonel John Dillard, was born 1783 in Henry County and resided at Font Hill, about six miles east of Martinsville, died 1822 in Amherst County. He was married to Sarah Stovall on 23 Dec 1771 in Henry County. He served in the House of Delegates and fought in the War of 1812. After the war the legislature gave him the rank of Brigadier General of the militia and at the time of his death was a member of the county court of Henry. Issue:
