Davis of James City and York Counties, Virginia
John Davis (1585-1646) of Gloucester, England, came to the Colony of Jamestown soon after its settlement. In the musters of the inhabitants of Virginia in 1624, it is shown that Thomas and John Davis, presumably brothers, emigrated in the ship John and Francis in 1623.
Thomas Davis, born 1585, seems to have
settled in Warwick County as he was Captain in the 1624 muster; also in 1655 when he patented 300 acres in Warwick County.
John Davis, born 1599, settled in York County. In 1633 he sold 200 acres of land. In 1672 he purchased 100 acres from John Thomas (deed). The inventory of the estate of John Davis in 1646, York County, indicated that he was "of Queenes Creek," estate being appraised on 14 September 1646. He
left three sons and possibly others.
