Burnley of Albemarle County
John Burnley resided in Hanover County in the early days, but returned to England in 1771. When he departed, he left his last will and testament dated 1778 (with a copy in London) in which he bequeathed his property to his son, Zachariah Burnley and to his daughters, Elizabeth and Keziah, both married to Dukes. A litigation followed regarding these bequests which lasted for fifty years. Zachariah Burnley was a citizen of Orange County, and purchased in 1767 fifteen hundred acres on Hardware and Totier from Dr. Arthur Hopkins which had been patented by Hardin Burnley, a brother of John, but was forfeited for non-payment of the quit rents. IN 1788 Zachariah also purchased 400 acres located at the mouth of Priddys Creek which he sold to Peter Clarkston.
Seth Burnley was born 26 Dec 1777 in Albemarle County, died 29 Nov 1857 Albemarle County. He resided north of Hydraulic Mills. He was married on 17 Mar 1819 in Albemarle County to Ann Goodman (born 16 Feb 1796, died 20 Feb 1825), a daughter of Horsey Goodman and his wife, Elizabeth (Rodes) Goodman. Issue:
