The pedigree of the Brew family is found in the Visitation of London in 1634. It begins with William Brewer of Chard in Somerset who was married to Deanes, the daughter of Mr. Baker of Crockehern in Somerset. The Brewer monument was mentioned in the Parish Church at Chard, bearing the Arms " Gules, two bends wavy, or "" Here lieth interred expecting their Saviour the bodyes of William Brewer of Chard, Phisitian and Deanes his wife, who, living forty years in Happy Wedlock, in full of age departed this life, shee dying 8 Nov 1614 and he 24 July 1618, having issue only six sons and five daughters all men and women growne, and all comforts to them."The family seat was Isle Brewer in Somerset. Issue:
- Peter Brewer. Had issue: Peter and Mary.
- William Brewer.
- Thomas Brewer married Miss Drake and had issue: Thomas and John.
- Christopher Brewer.
- John Brewer, citizen and grocer of London in Bartholomew Lane. Issue: John, Francis and Mary. He was a Burgess from Warwick in 1629 to 1630. Also, a member of the Governor's Council from 1632 to 1634. His plantation was called Stanleys Hundred or Brewers Burrough and was located in Warwick. John Brewer died in Virgina in 1635, his last will and testament was probated on 13 May 1636. After his death, his widow married Thomas Butler. This marriage is evidenced by a grant of land to Thomas Butler of 1000 acres in Isle of Wight County, Virginia on 11 July 1635, of which 50 acres was due as Brewer's own personal adventure and 50 acres for the personal adventure of his wife, Mary, due said Butler as having married the relict Mary Brewer. Issue:
- John Brewer inherited Stanley Hundred in Virginia and Brewers Burough. John settled in Isle of Wight County on the 1000 acre land grant of Rev. Thomas Butler. In 1657 to 1658 he represented Isle of Wight County in the Houses of Burgesses. John Brewer died intestate 1669 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.
