Baynham of Halifax County
john Baynham Sr., the Duke of Baynham, was married in Inverness, Scotland to Elizabeth Eggleston, sister of the Earl of
Eggleston, in 1780. He was condemned to death for his radical religious and political views, but escaped and came to America,
landing at Old Point Comfort, Virginia.
John Bayham Sr. arrived in Virginia about 1790. In 1830 his three sons were: Grief, John Jr. and William, and they all
settled in Missouri. Later generations laid claim to the oldd Baynham Castle in Scotland.
Elizabeth Eggleston Baynham was born in Kyle, Scotland, married George Boxley, Jr. on 3 October 1816. Mary Baynham
Boxley, born 7 Nov 1818, died 15 April 1868, married Reuben Fourqurean.
