Rank/Regt: A 29th NC. Hampton in 1876, and was largely instrumental in liberating his state from carpet-bag rule of that period; represented his county in the state legislature, 1880-82, declining to permit his friends to run him for same a second time; served as solicitor of the fourth circuit six years; served as a delegate to numerous annual conferences of the Methodist Episcopal church, south, and twice made delegate to the general conference. He is correspondent for the "Commercial Law association", and has a large and lucrative practice in his section of his state. This branch of the Newton family are, with one or two exceptions, exclusively an agricultural people, and Methodist in religious belief.

Noel, Zariah, born 1/5/1804 in Cashwell Co., N. C. "according to the old session book of Fairview Presbyterian Church, Lawrenceville, d. 4/3/1877 in Gwinnett; bur. Fairview. The Sessional Records of Fairview reveal that the Noel family came to Lawrenceville 1825-26 from Mt. Tabor Congregation in Tennessee"
